FLSA Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Schedule: 7a-3:30p, overtime and weekends expected

Position Summary

The Oiler assists the crane operator on job tasks during the operation of the crane and provides rigging operation and hand signals to ensure safe lifting of the load. Loads and secures equipment (spreader bars, mats, counterweights, etc.) then drives truck to location. Follows all State and Federal laws while operating motor vehicles. Obeys all safety and environmental policies while performing work on the job site. 

Key Responsibilities

· Assist the crane operator in the maintenance and proper set-up of the crane and accessory equipment

· Understand and perform proper rigging techniques to ensure safe lifting of loads

· Control movements of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces

· Dismantle, maintain, and store rigging equipment

· Manipulate and hoist rigging lines to move or support materials, steel and concrete

· Select gears, cables and shackles according to load size, facilities and work schedule

· Utilize proper hand signals to give direction to workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials

· Properly secure equipment to the trailer before operating truck

· Inspect truck and trailer, turn in trucks inspection report daily to the supervisor, report any mechanical defects and documents maintenance or repairs 

· Prepare all necessary rigging and equipment for next day’s jobs before ending current shift

· Clean outside and cab of assigned vehicle daily 

· Clean and inspect equipment in shop and yard

· Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations creating a safe working environment

· Regular and predictable attendance is required 

· Other job duties as assigned

Requirements

  

Qualifications & Skills

· Proficient in oral and written communication skills

· Pass drug test and background check

· Ability to work nights and weekends

Education & Experience

· High School Diploma or equivalent required, technical degree preferred

License & Certification

· Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record

· Class A CDL with acceptable driving record preferred

· Rigger/Signalman Certifications preferred

· AWP/Forklift Certifications preferred

· OSHA 10 preferred 

Working Conditions

This position is performed primarily at active construction sites and other outdoor work environments. Employees must be able to work safely on uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, mud, and other environmental conditions typical of heavy equipment and construction operations. The position requires the ability to drive during daytime and nighttime hours and in all weather conditions as needed. Operators must maintain constant situational awareness in dynamic work environments, remaining alert to the activities of employees, contractors, pedestrians, stationary equipment, and moving vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe operations. Frequent walking on uneven or unstable surfaces, including natural ground, is required. Employees must be able to safely climb on and off trucks, cranes, and other heavy equipment, as well as access elevated work areas using steps, ladders, or handholds. The use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times in accordance with company policies and applicable safety regulations.

· Prolonged standing, crouching, bending, climbing, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling, repetitive wrist and hand movements, hearing and seeing (depth perception and peripheral vision)

· Standing for long periods of time

· Sitting for long periods of time

· Work outside in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold

· Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts

· Frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles

· Must be able to safely climb various types of ladders

· Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds

· Must be able to climb on and off trucks, cranes, and heavy mobile equipment safely
