The Impact of a Sr Backend Software Engineer at Coupa:

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer at Coupa, you will play a crucial role in designing complex server-side architectures, supporting customer environments at a deep technical level, and optimizing overall system throughput. You will act as an autonomous technical owner for backend domains, helping scale Coupa's databases and APIs while systematically mentoring junior backend developers.

\nWhat You’ll Do:

• Server-Side Design: Translate complex business requirements into robust backend architectural designs, modeling secure, high-throughput microservices.
• Database Performance Tuning: Own the performance, caching (using Redis), and scaling of relational database architectures (SQL Server), diagnosing complex queries, lock contention, and indexing issues.
• Asynchronous Messaging: Integrate resilient distributed processing workflows using queue systems and event streams (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Production Excellence: Coordinate across global locations to plan, optimize, and safely execute high-quality database migrations and backend service releases.
• Mentorship: Provide consistent technical guidance, conduct architecture design reviews, and mentor backend team members on advanced C# and concurrency patterns.

What You Will Bring to Coupa:

• Experience: 5+ years of professional backend development experience, with a heavy focus on multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
• Core Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in C#, .NET Core, asynchronous programming, and building high-performance APIs.
  • Strong hands-on experience with database design, complex query optimization, and memory profiling.
  • Proven experience working with distributed systems, REST/GraphQL interfaces, and event-driven patterns.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructures (AWS or Azure), Docker, and Kubernetes deployment workflows.
• Soft Skills: Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of guiding technical initiatives and upskilling other backend developers.
