Senior Software Engineer (Backend)
About this role
We need a Senior Backend Engineer with 6+ YOE building production backend systems who has designed and maintained external-facing/public APIs that customers or partners depend on. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, greenfield environment with high ownership and have strong data modeling instincts, particularly around health data, time-series, or high-frequency signals. Bonus points if you have experience at a name-brand startup (Series B–D) or in healthcare/health tech.
Responsibilities
Design and evolve Counsel Health's external API and embedded product layer, ensuring long-term stability, disciplined versioning, and enterprise-grade API craftsmanship for major healthcare clients like CVS
Take ownership of critical platform primitives on the Platform & Integrations team, building the health data platform that ingests, reconciles, and exposes wearable, medication, lab, and EHR data across the entire application
Work closely with enterprise partners' engineering teams to build and maintain tight-knit embedded integrations where Counsel sits inside their apps
Contribute to core data models that unify structured health records, unstructured inputs, and high-frequency time-series signals into clean, durable abstractions
Build pluggable ingestion frameworks that normalize data from third-party sources into canonical internal models with extensible adapters for new partner onboarding
Shape the future of Counsel's backend architecture, evolving the platform as new integration patterns and client requirements emerge every few months
