Job Summary: 

The Automation Engineer utilizes technology to improve, streamline and automate a manufacturing process. They are responsible for planning, implementation, and monitoring of such technology.  An Automation Engineer uses technology to oversee or manage the manufacturing process. The aim of this technology is to streamline the manufacturing process to make it as efficient as possible. 

For any step in the manufacturing process, an Automation Engineer can be tasked with designing, simulating, installing, testing and managing an electrical or mechanical automation. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Identifying new opportunities for automation and design 

  • Management of a project team when necessary 

  • Designing new automation equipment or processes 

  • Simulating and testing these processes or equipment to ensure they function as desired 

  • Development of documentation for the new equipment and processes 

  • Programming new automated components to the manufacturing process 

  • Developing and maintaining clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes 

  • Provide training where necessary – typically after implementing new processes or equipment, or making changes to existing ones 

  • Troubleshooting automated processes or equipment when errors occur 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Engineering Degree with 3-5 years' experience in plant technical role or technical degree with 7 years’ experience preferably in a rolling industry.  

  • Technical skills mastery- Design, validation, and troubleshooting.  

  • Proficient with high level schematics, PLC code and low to medium voltage equipment. 

  • Willingness to acquire new technical and leadership skills and share existing knowledge with colleagues.  

  • Flexibility for remote technical support after hours. 

  • Excellent computer skills particularly in programming and software development 

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written- Must be able to explain novel and complex ideas to stakeholders of all levels and within multidisciplinary teams.  

  • Problem-solving and creative thinking will be required to troubleshoot problems as they arise and find effective solutions

Constellium Muscle Shoals is an aluminum manufacturing plant based in Alabama with over 1,200 employees. With its widest strip mill in the USA and a world-class recycling center, the site represents one of the largest sites within Constellium and is a world-class can recycling center, with the capacity to recycle nearly 20 billion cans per year. Muscle Shoals’ main product is aluminum can sheet for the packaging industry, particularly for beverage containers. It manufactures sheet used in all three components of an aluminum can, namely body stock, coated end stock and tab stock. Additionally, Muscle Shoals’ supplies Auto Body Sheet substrate to Constellium’ s Bowling Green, Kentucky, site.
