The Security Guard is responsible for the safety, security, and support of the Residence staff and clients living with mental illness. The overall job summary includes ensuring safety of the staff’s working conditions, safety of the residents and protecting the Program facility. Required to cover nights and weekends, as needed. Other responsibilities include working harmoniously with Program staff in accordance with Comunilife principles and guidelines. Reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Assistant Program Director and Program Director. This position is eligible for Comunilife's generous benefits and paid off package.

Essential Functions

Continually monitors the front door for safety and security purposes.
Check all incoming/out coming traffic of clients, visitors and staff. Check incoming traffic means the Security must have client sign in the client log before he/she gives the client his/her key to go up to his/her room. Must make sure that clients sign out and hand in their key to the Security as they are going out. Security must also check to make sure the client is not taking out with him/her any Program private property.
Maintain log entries on traffic
Notification to program staff of security violations, and when necessary to the NYPD (New York Police Department). Must make sure that client is not bringing in alcoholic beverages, contraband drugs, weapons or any electronic equipment such as computers, air conditioners, and others.
Follow procedures to secure, report, control and dispose of confiscated contraband, i.e., alcoholic beverages, drugs with intention to deal
Patrol the building and outside courtyards at least one every three hours during the day and once every hour during evening and nights, as scheduled. This includes halls, stairs, and public bathrooms. Check facility for any safety hazards and report same to Assistant Program Director via Log Book.
Clear public areas of loitering residents
Report to the Assistant Program Director any unusual violation of house rules
Keep log entries of violations of house rules
Attend mandated in-service training programs and meetings

QualificationsEducation and Experience Requirement(s):

High School diploma

At least one or two years of experience in security, or healthcare field.

Experience with homeless individuals, chronic mental illness, substance abuse individuals, and a plus.

Bilingual Spanish is preferred.

Certifications & Licenses Required

8 and 16 hour Security Guard Training Certificate; New York State Security Guard License to be obtained within 6 months of employment.

Our Life is Precious™ Program, which opened in 2008, provides non-clinical services to girls’ ages 12 to 17 in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Poughkeepsie, Yonkers, Hempstead, and Amsterdam. Activities include academic support, creative arts therapies, music lessons, wellness activities and concrete family services, are designed to reduce the risk factors associated with Latina adolescent suicide.
