The Assistant Controller supports the VP of Accounting in assisting the accounting operations of the organization. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting in the preparation of financial statements, month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and helping coordinate audits and tax return. Essential Functions

Assist in the month-end and year-end close process, and the monthly/quarterly financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely preparation and distribution of internal and external financial reports.
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or other applicable standards.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll/fringe, and cash management.
Prepare account reconciliations, review and approve bank accounts reconciliations.
Manage the agency-wide cost allocation plans and develop monthly allocation schedules.
Review and maintain agency fixed assets schedule and record monthly depreciation/amortization.
Prepare and submit monthly vouchers for ‘Fee for Services’ programs, including Respite, Medicaid, and Care Coordination. Keep tracking and reconcile monthly receivables.
Assist with budget preparation, reporting, financial forecasts, and variance analyses.
Help ensure compliance with internal controls, fiscal policies, and regulatory requirements.
Assist in the development and implementation of accounting procedures and process improvements.
Support internal and external audits, including preparing audit schedules and documentation.
Assist in the preparation of the annual tax returns, including retirement plan, IRS Form 990 and New York State CHAR500’s.
Ad hoc tasks and assignments from the Chief Financial Officer and AVP of Accounting.

QualificationsEducation and Experience Requirement(s)

Bachelor’s degree in finance and/or accounting with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in accounting or financial management, CPA or master’s degree preferred. Experience in working in the non-profit field is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Outstanding organizational, communications, analytical, and accounting skills required.

Our Medical Respite program provides short-term supportive housing and case management services to multiply-challenged patients leaving hospital care without a viable home in which to recuperate.

Comunilife is a leader in the field of Latina adolescent suicide prevention. Our Life is Precious™ Program, which opened in 2008, provides non-clinical services to girls’ ages 12 to 17 in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Poughkeepsie, Yonkers, Hempstead, and Amsterdam. Activities include academic support, creative arts therapies, music lessons, wellness activities and concrete family services, are designed to reduce the risk factors associated with Latina adolescent suicide.
