Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital is looking for a highly motivated, highly skilled individual to join our relief team. We provide 24-hour emergency services with a specialty in referral surgery. We are looking for technicians and Veterinary Assistants who want to utilize their skills to the fullest potential in a fun and stimulating environment.
We are currently seeking qualified technicians and Veterinary Medical Assistants for relief positions with our ER/ICU service. These roles function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility; solid technical skills, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and with a team are required.
Essential Job Duties
• Provide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians
• Participate in nurse rounds
• Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency
• Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
• Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
• Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
• Observe patients and recognize changes in status
• Place peripheral and central catheters
• Restrain patients for exams and treatments
• Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
• Maintain urinary catheters
• Bandage removal and application
• Perform suture and drain removal
• Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
• Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
• Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
• Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
• Basic wound cleaning and care
• Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
• Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
• Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
• Obtain samples for and perform in-house laboratory testing
• Assist in CPR
Required Education and Experience
• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
• 2+ years professional veterinary experience, GP experience is accepted
Preferred Education/Experience
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology, Biology, Animal Science or comparable experience.
