About the role

This role is responsible for all oversight of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management for clients in the outpatient Behavioral Health Program. As part of the Behavioral Health multidisciplinary team, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will work with clinicians, engagement specialists and administrative support staff to ensure best practices are provided and appropriate level of clinical care. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner may provide advisory services in assigned committees, as well as consultation for program development to ensure clients are provided effective collaborative medical and psychiatric care.

This is a 15-hour per week position. We are flexible on days as long as the schedule is consistent and includes working until 7pm one evening per week.

What you'll do

  • Provide psychiatric assessments, medication maintenance and monitoring, crisis intervention for clients meeting access standards and quality goals, and ensuring services are trauma informed and culturally sensitive.
  • Perform psychiatric diagnostic evaluations/treatments for a panel of clients with mental health and substance use disorders in both New London and New Haven.
  • Provide medication to treat opioid use disorder and ensure appropriate medication reviewed is in the CT Prescription Monitoring Program to ensure safety protocols are maintained.
  • Order and interpret appropriate consultations, diagnostic testing, toxicology screens and laboratory results.
  • Prescribe medications as appropriate and within scope of practice.
  • Provide crisis psychiatric evaluation as needed.
  • Participate in daily clinical multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss client at risk, those needing additional services, and those needing treatment plan adjustments. Advise and inform clients, staff, or other team members to advance the treatment plan
  • Complete and sign any required paperwork necessary for clients to access transportation, disability services, social security or any other potential paperwork needing this type of signature.

Qualifications

  • Valid CT APRN License required. State controlled substance license preferred.
  • At least three years of continuous psychiatric clinical practice preferred
  • Experience in treating complex co-occurring disorders including prescribing buprenorphine preferred.
  • Experienced in working in a electronic health record preferred.
