Description

HVAC Service Tech Summary: Diagnose/troubleshoot HVAC/R equipment, building comfort, energy efficiency, and related problems. Present options and pricing to customers. Complete approved repairs/improvements on time.

Average Compensation: $60,000-$100,000/year

HVAC Service Tech Duties:

-Diagnose and repair HVAC/R systems and comfort issues

-Communicate findings, options, and pricing to customers

-Complete repairs, installs, and maintenance per industry standards

-Ensure customer satisfaction and collect payment

-Complete required paperwork and report job details after each call

-Maintain service vehicle, tools, and truck inventory

-Promote service agreements and equipment upgrades when applicable

-Follow warranty, quality, and performance guidelines

-Perform other duties as assigned

HVAC Service Tech Qualifications:

-3–5 years' Service Technician experience

-EPA 608 Certification

-Valid driver’s license; clean driving

-Criminal background checks conducted as required by applicable state laws governing home service companies and by the requirements of the company's insurance carrier(s). 

-Lift and carry compressors up to 5-ton capacity

-Strong troubleshooting and schematic-reading skills

-Brazing/soldering/welding experience

-Own standard technician tools

-Professional appearance

HVAC Service Tech Performance Metrics:

-Service/maintenance calls per day

-Meeting or beating industry time standards for repair work

-Accuracy of paperwork and reporting

-Callbacks resulting from misdiagnosis or poor workmanship

-Collection of payments for work performed

-Complete truck inventory

-Truck maintenance, organization, and cleanliness

-Company tool maintenance and condition

-Service agreement years sold

-Replacement leads generated

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

-Ability to climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and lift to 50 lbs. (occasionally more)

-Frequent standing, walking, talking, and the use of vision to read technical information

-Work may involve exposure to mechanical parts, varying temperatures, noise, fumes, or outdoor conditions
