Job Summary:

The Bindery Operator, reporting to the Digital Print Operations Manager, works with a variety of machines and equipment to assemble and finish photobooks. This position is required to cross-train in multiple stations to become proficient in several steps in the book making process. The Bindery Operator involves a high level of collaboration to ensure the quality and timely completion of the final product.  This position is a full-time permanent position. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate a variety of machines and equipment, such as the Case Maker, Cutters, Laminators, the Layflat machine, PUR Binders, and the Smasher. 
  • Perform routine inspection and routine maintenance on machinery and equipment.
  • Conduct all work in a way that utilizes the correct process and materials to produce high-quality results.
  • Work collaboratively across the department to ensure quality and timing standards are consistently being met.
  • Engage in the cross-training program to gain proficiency in all stations [JB1.1]within the Photobooks department.
  • Inspect the final product for any damage or quality issues. 
  • Clean and maintain a safe and tidy working environment. 
  • Instruct temporary employees on best practices for multiple tasks when necessary. 
  • Complete additional tasks as required.
  • Comply with all occupational health and safety requirements.  

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent and previous experience in a print role is considered an asset. 
  • Written and verbal fluency in English
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and duties simultaneously Reliability and dependability. 
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work with others while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and train complex processes. 
  • Flexibility in scheduling is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work reasonable overtime hours when required to meet customer demands.
  • A moderate amount of physical effort will be required to perform the duties of the job. In a typical day, the incumbent will be expected to stand and walk for up to 7 hours or more, perform repetitive tasks, and lift, carry, and stack up to 50lbs regularly.
