The Technical Project Lead / Project Engineer leads the technical delivery and oversight of multidisciplinary civil design projects across the energy and infrastructure sectors.

The role sits within a collaborative delivery environment, working closely with Project Managers, internal technical teams, and external stakeholders including clients, contractors, and consultants. This role is the technical focal point across projects, providing oversight, coordination, and assurance of engineering outputs.

This role is suited to an individual with a strong background in civil infrastructure, building surveying or, structural engineering, who is comfortable managing technical interfaces across multiple disciplines. The primary purpose is to ensure technically compliant, coordinated, and high-quality project delivery from feasibility through to construction support.

The role delivers value by strengthening technical governance, improving design integration, reducing delivery risk, and supporting efficient project execution across a diverse portfolio including substations, utilities infrastructure, energy developments, industrial projects, and associated civils works.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day technical oversight across multiple civil and infrastructure design projects
  • Coordinate and review multidisciplinary inputs including civil, structural, surveying, and related disciplines
  • Ensure all design outputs are compliant, integrated, and deliverable
  • Support development of project scopes, programmes, deliverables, and resource planning
  • Assist department heads in preparing bids, quantifying design costs, and contributing to the creation of Terms of Engagement
  • Act as a key technical interface between internal teams, clients, consultants, and contractors
  • Demonstrate strong client-facing capability, representing the organisation professionally in meetings and technical discussions
  • Provide contractor oversight, including site inspections, quality checks, and acting in a client representative or Clerk of Works capacity where required
  • Resolve technical issues and coordinate design changes across project lifecycles
  • Support technical assurance processes including design reviews, checking, and QA procedures
  • Work alongside Project Managers to support delivery against programme and budget requirements
  • Monitor technical progress, identifying risks, constraints, and coordination issues
  • Support management of change, technical queries, and design revisions
  • Assist with NEC contract-related technical coordination where applicable
  • Contribute to improving project delivery processes, communication standards, and documentation practices
  • Review technical documentation including drawings, reports, calculations, surveys, and specifications
  • Coordinate engineering interfaces across civils, structural, utilities, and building surveying disciplines
  • Support feasibility studies, site investigations, and condition assessments
  • Contribute to constructability reviews, ensuring practical and buildable design solutions
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and client requirements
  • Support development and standardisation of technical processes, templates, and best practices
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technical team members
  • Participate in lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to the growth and capability development of the civil design function
Key Deliverables
  • Coordinated, compliant, and high-quality multidisciplinary design outputs across all assigned projects
  • Effective technical integration between civil, structural, and surveying disciplines
  • Timely identification and mitigation of technical risks and design coordination issues
  • Delivery of accurate technical reviews, reports, and engineering documentation
  • Support for successful project delivery in line with programme, cost, and quality expectations
  • Contribution to improved technical standards, workflows, and departmental efficiency
  • Clear and consistent technical communication with stakeholders across project lifecycles

Essential:

  • Proven experience in team working and team leadership
  • Proven client-facing experience and stakeholder management
  • Experience in contractor oversight, site inspection, or client representative / Clerk of Works roles
  • Strong ability to interpret technical standards (BS EN, building regulations, technical guidance)
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, technical)
  • High attention to detail and quality-focused mindset
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver consistently high-quality outputs
  • Capability to mentor, lead and support technical teams
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to regularly attend the Oxford office

Desirable:

  • Relevant Educational Qualifications
  • Experience assisting with bid preparation, design cost estimation, and Terms of Engagement
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary infrastructure or energy projects
  • Experience in NEC contracts or similar frameworks
  • Experience contributing to technical governance, QA, and process improvement
  • Experience working in a diverse, multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to teach, present, and simplify complex technical topics
