JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department is responsible for building a healthy, inclusive and vibrant City, as well as ensuring that communities, residents and visitors have access to the recreation and cultural places, programs, events and services that allow them to experience all the benefits the City has to offer, and overseeing Buildings and Facilities Management for improved service delivery integration, ensuring the best possible client experience in City facilities.

You are responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of an arts program within a specialized arts venue. Responsibilities include design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a program (theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and/or media arts) within a specialized arts venue; also responsible for administration and responding to public inquiries.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of college or university arts-related studies program and/or practicing in one of the following disciplines: music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literary arts, media arts, or arts education.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
AODA Customer Service/IASR Training

KNOWLEDGE

  • Completion of health and safety training required by legislation and by the Corporation of the City of Ottawa
  • Knowledge of interpretive techniques and designing program in related discipline.
  • Excellent knowledge of Museums Standards for the Handling and installation of works of art or excellent knowledge in technique of operating a studio using glazes, kilns, wheels, and or other related program specific equipment
  • Excellent knowledge of the local arts community an asset
  • Strong knowledge of developing training program for instructors and/or volunteers using glazes, kilns, wheels, and clay
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all City of Ottawa corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and supervise staff

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing.       
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (Level 2) check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).
