Summary:
Aquatic Services provide London families and individuals of all ages with opportunities to participate in unstructured aquatic activities and structured educational programs to teach drowning prevention and water safety.
Role:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for providing support and coordination to a variety of aquatic programs and the safety, security and cleanliness of the aquatic facilities ensuring a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience for Londoners. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced aquatic environment providing high quality programs while providing excellent customer service.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and staff to ensure that policies, rules and regulations are followed.
- Responsible for the safety, security, and cleanliness of the facility.
- Provide support and coordination to a variety of aquatic programs such as, drop-in programs, pool rentals, registered programs and special events.
- Act as a positive role model, working as a team to ensure staff are following protocols, provide guidance to other staff, observe and give feedback.
- Coordinate staff rotations, breaks, delegation of tasks, work assignments.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills along with a professional and positive attitude when communicating with the public and customers.
- Provide support as Head Instructor/lifeguard, Instructor/Lifeguard, Aquatic Attendant, Cashier and/or Building Attendant and maintain certifications for those positions.
- Assist the Supervisor, Aquatics with performance appraisals of casual staff.
- Assist with scheduling, shift changes and coverage including teaching and guarding as required.
- Facilitate aquatic leadership courses as assigned.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, supervision, and mentoring of all casual new and existing aquatic staff and volunteers.
- Assist in the development of program initiatives, policies and procedures, standards, goals and objectives.
- Prepare and maintain documents and statistical information on all aquatic programs.
- Responsible for all supplies and inventory related to programs, administration, safety, etc.
- Complete daily cash balancing for designated facilities.
- Ensure all paperwork is completed properly and in a timely manner.
- Knowledgeable of city programs and policies.
- Collaborate with other staff at facilities and across the Recreation and Sport division.
- Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees, and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
- Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years' supervisory experience in an aquatic environment.
- College diploma or equivalent experience
- Current Instructor Trainer - Lifesaving Society or NL Instructor/Examiner
- Current Standard or Intermediate First Aid Instructor/Examiner Certificate
- Current Bronze Examiner Certificate
- Current National Lifeguard Certificate
- Current Lifesaving Instructor Certificate
- Current LSS Swim Instructor Certificate
- Current Standard or Intermediate First Aid Certificate
- Current Airway Management Certificate
- Current Aquatic Supervisor Certificate
- G License and access to vehicle
- Vulnerable Persons Police Screening Check (prior to the start of employment)
- Examiner Mentor is an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude.
- Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments.
- Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).
- Coaching experience recommended.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, Point of Sale and Xplor (preferred).
Other Information:
Updated qualifications include Standard or Intermediate First Aid (prior to the start of employment).
Starting Wage: $24.00 per hour.
