Manager - Financial Reporting
About this role
- Ensures the timely, accurate and complete preparation and filing of the bank’s financial statements .
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting process, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
- Oversees the preparation of various internal management reports including but not limited to monthly results to executive management, Board of Director and Audit Committee materials.
- Provides leadership in supporting the Company’s technical accounting needs. Guides the Company and its management on accounting guidance and pronouncements issued by the FASB and other rule-making bodies.
- Oversees the evaluation of newly issued and proposed accounting pronouncements on the Company’s financial statements, along with partnering with local and CAO office on the implementation of new accounting standards.
- Maintains the Company’s accounting policies and procedures by partnering with local advisory & interpretation group in conjunction with APG.
- Ensures that new, unusual or complex transactions are properly accounted for and documented. These transactions include but are not limited to non-routine transactions, bank initiatives, new products and other special projects.
- Liaise with the accounting, financial and regulatory reporting, and technical accounting functions of the parent company.
- Acts as a point of contact between the Company and its independent accounting firm regarding all annual audits and other financial reporting matters.
- Liaise with bank regulatory reporting team during periodic regulatory examinations, consultations and regulatory requests. Review the Company’s responses to findings and issues identified during regulatory examinations to ensure the US GAAP views are are appropriately addressed.
- Provides financial and accounting leadership, due diligence, and post-acquisition integration support for acquisitions and dispositions.
- Evaluates and develops practices that comply with US GAAP requirements. Partner with the bank regulatory reporting team to determine if there are RAAP / GAAP differences and document those differences. Establishes new procedures and processes in response to new accounting and reporting requirements, along with continuing to enhance productivity, efficiency, workflow and automation of the financial reporting function.
- Ensures compliance with internal control requirements, including SOX/FDICIA controls over financial reporting.
- Interfaces with other departments and all levels of management on accounting and financial reporting matters.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to strengthen the financial reporting process, automate manual activities, and enhance reporting quality.
- Support enterprise initiatives and finance transformation initiatives, including ERP, general ledger, data warehouse, and reporting system enhancement.
- Manages and develops professional staff with sufficient knowledge, skills and experience to support the Company’s requirements. Mentor and motivate staff and promote career development.
- Responsible and accountable for appropriate quality controls related to the financial products the bank provides, the services the bank delivers, the processes employed and the incentives with which colleagues are awarded.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years accounting or reporting experience;
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience;
- CPA - Certified Public Accountant
- Must have experience at a publicly held financial services institution and/or one of the Big 4 accounting firms.
- Significant previous accounting experience required.
- Requires in-depth reporting and technical accounting knowledge.
- Must have Banking knowledge.
- Strong presentation skills at the most senior levels of management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate information clearly and accurately, both written and verbal, to all levels of the Company.
- Effective managerial and organizational skills.
- Effective project and time management skills.
- Strong quantitative analysis skills and excellent knowledge of financial/accounting reporting systems and software tools, GAAP principles and internal control procedures.
- Ability to build positive relationships both within the Finance Division and throughout the bank and collaborate and influence across departments, functions and levels of management.
- Must be capable of establishing professional expertise through integrity, dedication, and strategic counsel. Must be capable of inspiring confidence and respect in staff and motivate colleagues to achieve finance division and company goals.
