About this role

The Credit Risk role is focused on analyzing the creditworthiness of individuals and entities, assigning risk ratings, recommending, or approving credit extensions or withdrawals, and providing ongoing monitoring of credit exposures. This role includes those with credit approval authority for classifiably managed portfolios requiring management for potential credit impairment. Individuals within this role maintain a balance between risk and return, ensuring that credit policies are appropriate, and perform regular in-depth reviews of the credit portfolio. This role manages and mitigates potential credit losses, safeguarding the company's financial stability and supporting sustainable business growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Stay updated on industry developments and apply in-depth knowledge to contribute to strategic and pro-active risk management.
  • Provide guidance, review & challenge, and recommendations on complex credit approvals for an assigned credit portfolio.
  • Assess the quality of the loan portfolio, including the identification and assessment of emerging risks and providing regular feedback on issues and opportunities to senior management.
  • Monitor assigned credit portfolio, analyzing trends, risks, and key statistics to execute preventative measures.
  • Oversee deal approvals in collaboration with business partners, demonstrating commercial awareness and sound judgment.
  • Participate in developing and refining procedures for approvals, portfolio functions, and credit guidelines.
  • Effectively communicate and negotiate with internal stakeholders, often at senior levels, to influence decisions and impact projects.
  • Collaborate with the Risk organization to refine data utilization processes, demonstrating a deep understanding of data sources and analysis.
  • Adhere to compliance standards, assess business risks, and safeguard the company, its clients, and assets.
  • Prepare the deliverables for internal and external stakeholders, including regulators (for example on expected portfolio performance, areas of potential risk and/or opportunity)
  • Make informed business decisions that consider risk assessment, the firm's reputation, and compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, upholding policy and ethical business practices.
  • Provide independent credit risk oversight and challenge for 1st LOD, including the review of credit applications, risk ratings, exposure assessments, and approval recommendations.
  • Monitor portfolio quality and emerging risks, analyzing sector, obligor, country, and concentration trends, and providing timely escalation and recommendations to senior management.
  • Partner with the CRO on legal entity risk governance matters, supporting oversight of risk-related regulatory requirements, governance committees, audit actions, stress testing, IFRS9, and other franchise-level risk initiatives.
  • Prepare and deliver risk analysis and management information for senior stakeholders, regulators, and governance forums, highlighting portfolio performance, key risk developments, and areas requiring management attention.
  • Review and challenge complex transactions and deal structures, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, mitigated, and remain within Citi's risk appetite and policy framework.
  • Engage with business, risk, and control partners to support credit approvals, address portfolio issues, implement risk mitigation strategies, and drive effective risk management practices across the franchise.
  • Support regulatory, audit, and governance interactions, including the coordination of responses to regulatory inquiries, internal audits, examinations, and remediation of identified risk issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and ethical standards while proactively identifying process improvements and strengthening risk management frameworks.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing and approving credit applications within a business context.
  • Deep understanding of financial analysis and cash flow lending products.
  • Proven ability to adapt and implement the latest industry trends in credit approval and risk management.
  • Experience in resolving moderately complex issues, balancing conflicting situations, and evaluating alternatives.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting financial data, assessing risk, and making informed credit approval decisions.
  • Effective communication and diplomacy skills to negotiate and influence both colleagues and external customers.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills for efficient resource allocation within the team.

Education:

Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.
