Overview

Fleet Maintenance Technicians are responsible for maintaining and repairing transportation delivery 
equipment used for the delivery and unloading of merchandise at Chick-fil-A restaurants. 

 

The Fleet Maintenance Technician—Class B is responsible for servicing a broad array of equipment, 
including heavy duty tractors, refrigeration units, insulated trailers and hydraulic liftgates in a safe, 
orderly, and timely fashion to maximize equipment availability for delivery.  
 


Responsibilities

• Perform duties by following the Chick-fil-A safety standards

• Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems

• Complete thorough documentation and work orders for repairs in the Fleet Maintenance Management System

• Closeout work orders in a timely manner including entering the required information in the Fleet Maintenance Management System

• Repair delivery equipment, tractors, trailers, Passenger vehicles or any piece of equipment used for the delivery and unloading of merchandise

• Repair and maintenance of Material handling equipment • Inspect brake systems, steering systems, suspension components to ensure proper and safe operation

• Perform preventative maintenance on such equipment as Tractors, Trailers, Liftgates, Refrigeration and Material equipment

• Diagnose repairs on fleet using the latest technology including Cummins InSite, Eaton Road ranger, Bendix ACON, Davie 4. Carrier E-solutions

• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, drill press and jacks and hoists

• Raise trucks and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists • Immediately communicate problems with Supervisor

• Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures

• Document maintenance activities and repairs

• Utilize computer programs such as Microsoft office

• Adhere to Federal Motor Carrier Guidelines

• May be required to operate a company vehicle to repair equipment as part of a roadside service call

• Maintain a clean and organized work area

• Work in a safe manner according to company policies and federal, state, and local regulations

• Train other employees and act as a mentor

• Work with transportation team to perform quarterly driver training and safety lane events.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• 2 years of relevant work experience

• Must acquire EPA 608 & EPA 609 Licenses within 6 months of hire

• Tech must have provide basic hand tools

• Demonstrated proficiency in the diagnostics and repair of brake systems both air and hydraulic

• Working knowledge of diesel engines and must be able to perform all diesel repairs

• Working knowledge of refrigeration systems and capable of performing necessary repairs under the direction of another certified technician

• Working knowledge of hydraulic liftgates and ability to perform all repairs. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical problems

• Must be able to walk extensively

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time usually for 8-10 hours

• Must be able to lift 30-60 lbs. repetitively and heavier items weighing up to 100 lbs. occasionally and frequently push or pull three hundred (300) pounds

• Must be capable of following instructions and be a self-starter

• Must be capable of working independently with a minimum amount of supervision

• Must be capable of working in a mobile fashion to support transportation operations

• Must be willing to work nights, weekends and shifts

• Proficient communicating in English (reading, writing, and speaking) to safely follow verbal instructions, complete documentation and paperwork, and accurately read and interpret company communications 


Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

• Class “A” CDL or willingness to complete CDL training

• ASE Certifications or willingness to acquire

• Prior experience using a Fleet Maintenance Management System

• Material handling equipment experience is a plus since a forklift is used on occasion

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with welding
