In this position, you will lead revenue recognition and revenue accounting under U.S. GAAP (ASC 606) for CesiumAstro's government and commercial contracts, including Firm Fixed Price, Cost Plus, Time & Materials, and milestone-based arrangements. This role serves as the company's subject matter expert on revenue accounting, partnering with Contracts, Program Management, Business Development, Legal, and FP&A to ensure revenue is recognized accurately and in compliance with applicable accounting standards and government regulations. The Staff Revenue Accountant operates with minimal supervision, exercising a high degree of independent judgment on complex, technical revenue accounting matters.
\nJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue accounting close process, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 for all customer contracts.
- Evaluate new contracts, contract modifications, change orders, and amendments to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
- Analyze performance obligations, transaction price allocation, variable consideration, and timing of revenue recognition, including over-time recognition using cost-to-cost methodologies where applicable.
- Prepare and maintain technical accounting memoranda supporting complex revenue conclusions, and review contract assets, contract liabilities, deferred revenue, and unbilled receivables.
- Partner with Contracts and Program Management to review contract terms prior to award.
- Support accounting for Firm Fixed Price, Cost Plus, Time & Materials, Cost Reimbursable, IDIQ, Foreign Military Sales, and Direct Commercial Sales contracts.
- Ensure compliance with applicable FAR, DFARS, and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), as applicable, and monitor funding modifications, contract options, and change orders for accounting implications.
- Prepare monthly revenue-related journal entries and reconciliations, and review revenue schedules supporting SEC filings and external financial statements.
- Support quarterly disclosure requirements related to ASC 606 and coordinate revenue-related audit requests with external auditors.
- Maintain and enhance SOX-compliant controls over revenue processes, including documentation supporting the quote-to-cash process.
- Partner with Contracts, Legal, Business Development, Program Management,
FP&A, and Controllershipto evaluate new contract structures and improve contract language from an accounting perspective. - Support proposal development and optimize revenue recognition outcomes for new business opportunities.
- Identify and drive opportunities for continuous process improvement within revenue accounting workflows.
- 8 years of progressive revenue accounting experience with a B.S./B.A. in Accounting or Finance required or a minimum of 6 years of experience with a relevant M.S./M.A.
- CPA required.
- Advanced expertise in ASC 606 Revenue Recognition and ASC 340 Contract Costs.
- Extensive experience with government contract structures, contract modifications, and variable consideration.
- Strong knowledge of Stand-alone Selling Price (SSP), Remaining Performance Obligations (RPO), contract assets/liabilities, deferred revenue, and unbilled receivables.
- Working knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting and financial statement presentation.
- Experience with government contracting regulations (FAR/DFARS), project accounting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- SOX compliance and technical accounting research experience required.
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve complex revenue accounting matters.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Acumatica, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Experience with revenue automation and revenue management tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
- Experience with defense or aerospace manufacturing and public company reporting.
