Salary: $45,000 – $47,000 / year (Salaried)
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday – Friday
Center for Human Development (CHD), is seeking a proactive and dedicated Youth Service Coordinator (YSC) to join our Community Services Network team at the DYS District Office in Springfield, MA. Working closely with CHD staff and Department of Youth Services (DYS) caseworkers, you will serve as the daily face youth see when they visit the office—helping guide, monitor, and support young people as they transition back into their communities.
The Opportunity: Guide, Empower, and Support:
As a Youth Service Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in balancing community supervision with positive youth development. You will help youth connect to services that align with their strengths and needs, plan engaging pro-social activities, and ensure a safe, structured environment at the District Office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reentry & Transition Planning: Attend 90-60-30-day discharge meetings; support youth transitioning from residential placements back to the community; help secure vital documents (IDs, birth certificates) and open bank accounts.
- Case Coordination & Resource Navigation: Work with DYS caseworkers to connect youth and families with community resources (housing navigation, MassHealth/benefits access, substance use support, tutoring, job readiness, and mental health services).
- Direct Support & Engagement: Accompany youth shopping for basic needs; transport youth in program vehicles (including a 15-passenger van); coordinate and lead recreational, educational, vocational, and civic engagement outings.
- District Office Operations & Safety: Provide routine office coverage, conduct safety/entry searches, monitor school and appointment attendance, track curfew/GPS requirements as assigned, and ensure a welcoming, secure environment.
- Administrative & Data Tracking: Enter client contact and program participation data into the state database (JJEMS); assist in managing tangible allowances (bus passes/gift cards); contribute to quarterly newsletters.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related human services or criminal justice field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth, preferably within a juvenile justice, behavioral health, or child welfare setting.
- Logistics: Valid Driver’s License, clean driving record, and a reliable personal vehicle for work-related tasks. Willingness to drive a program 15-passenger van.
- Core Skills: Strong crisis de-escalation, problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency with computers and database data entry.
