Job Title: Relief Direct Care Staff (Per Diem)

Location: Springfield, MA & Surrounding Communities

Pay Rate: $18.00 / hour

Job Type: Relief / Variable (Per Diem)

Our Culture & Mission: Care Finds a Way:

At the Center for Human Development (CHD), our guiding philosophy is Care Finds a Way. This is the heartbeat of our organization. For over 50 years, we have been dedicated to promoting, enhancing, and protecting the dignity and welfare of people in need. Our culture is built on inclusivity, collaboration, and deep empathy. We actively work together to break down barriers to care, ensuring every youth has the opportunity to thrive.

About the Role & Environment:

The youth referred to our congregate care settings have complex behavioral health profiles and histories that require 24/7 supervision. As a Relief Direct Care Staff member, you are a vital professional who actively carries out our therapeutic philosophy.

While you are hired under a specific residential program, you possess the versatility to work within other CHD Congregate Care Programs as required by your direct supervisor. You will report to the Program Manager (or designee) and work collaboratively with the program team, the youth, their family, DCF, and other supporting agencies to play an instrumental role in each child's stay.

Your Impact & Responsibilities:

  • Therapeutic Environment: Assist in maintaining a structured, safe, secure, and therapeutic environment that builds on the youth's strengths to foster self-regulation skills.
  • Treatment Delivery: Deliver behavior health treatments that strictly align with each youth’s specific treatment plan.
  • Inclusive Care: Respond to the daily care and treatment needs of all youth in a manner that is respectful of and responsive to diversity across all human characteristics.
  • Shift Accountability: Perform all core job functions standard to the shift you are covering (e.g., on overnight shifts, you are expected to do regular bed checks and remain awake and alert at all times).

Relief Schedule Expectations:

  • Flexibility: Relief staff are often asked to pick up any of our three main shifts: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM, or 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM.
  • Commitment & Policies: This position is on a relief or variable basis with no guaranteed hours. However, once a shift is accepted, you are held to the exact same high expectations, program policies, and procedures as all staff.
  • Versatility: Staff will need to be available to work within other CHD Congregate Care Programs based on program needs.

What We Look For:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, deep empathy for others, and a commitment to serving youth with significant needs.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team model.
  • Essential computer skills for documentation.
  • Must pass all required background record screening processes (CORI).
