Position Introduction:

An academic tutor will be asked and expected to tutor student-athletes in various courses. All tutoring will take place in the McClendon Center for Intercollegiate Athletics and will range based on student-athlete need and tutor availability. Tutoring sessions will include 1-3 student-athletes and are expected to last 45 minutes.

Required Education:

  • Athletics Tutors must meet the skills requirement below. Must attach transcript reflecting minimum grade requirement or degree earned.

Department Preferences:

  • Must have earned a B or higher in the specific course or have been award a degree in that area.
  • Must be capable of tutoring the courses specified.
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to effectively communicate course material while engaging with our student-athletes in a positive manner.
  • Must be willing and able to communicate and build relationships with a varied group of students.
  • Must be willing and able to gain and maintain working knowledge of university, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Must be willing and able to adhere to standards of conduct for Athletics Academics Tutorial Staff.

The Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) at the University of Oklahoma (OU) offers in-person English language courses for international students on the Norman campus of the University of Oklahoma, and off-site courses for businesses providing English-language courses for their employees.

Our location on campus provides students with access to all University of Oklahoma resources including housing, dining, transportation, libraries, medical facilities, and more.

  • Intensive English Program: Full time, 20 hours per week including:

-seminars - U.S. history/government, presentation skills, public speaking, test preparation

  • Test prep: IELTS, TOEFL iBT
  • Community English: Part-time courses for students already living in our community

-General English, including grammar, speaking, listening, reading, writing

  • Individualized programs designed for partner universities or businesses
