Position Introduction:

Join the University of Oklahoma and play a vital role in keeping campus operations running efficiently. As a Senior Operating Engineer/Mechanic Journeyman, you'll operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair steam and chilled water plant equipment that supports the university.

What You'll Do:

  • Operate and monitor boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and related plant systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance and complex equipment repairs
  • Test and adjust water treatment chemicals while following strict safety procedures
  • Troubleshoot plant and distribution system equipment to ensure reliable operation
  • Maintain equipment records and support operational compliance Train and mentor new employees on equipment operation, safety, and maintenance procedures
  • Assist with campus support activities, including snow and ice removal when needed

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 18 months of steam and chill water plant operation experience.

Required Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date
  • Oklahoma City and Norman campuses: High Pressure Boiler License and State of Oklahoma High Pressure Boiler License.  
  • Tulsa campus: City of Tulsa Unlimited First Class Stationary Engineer License.

Department Preferences:

  • Knowledge of pump and motor maintenance
  • Operational and mechanical knowledge on commercial York and Trane chillers of >2000 tons
  • Operational and Mechanical knowledge of commercial water tube boilers of >60,000 kpph
  • Operational and Mechanical knowledge of on Solar Taurus CTGs
  • Operational and Mechanical knowledge of on HRSGs >60 kpph
