Position Introduction:

Tutors in the Boys & Girls Club of Norman will provide academic support and education to students enrolled in the after-school program. This position is part-time through OU’s Federal Work Study program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction tailored to each student’s learning needs and goals
  • Develop and implement personalized lesson plans and instructional strategies to improve understanding and performance
  • Supervise students during sessions, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment
  • Help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Provide feedback and support to students to help them develop confidence and skills

Required Education and Experience:

Must be currently enrolled in the Fall Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma.

Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Fall 2026 class schedule

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working in structured or group settings with children preferred.
  • At minimum, some college experience; many positions require a teaching certification or specialized tutoring certification from recognized organizations
  • Strong subject knowledge in areas such as Math, Reading, Writing, Science, or test preparation (SAT/ACT, high school entrance exams) depending on the program
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles and needs, including students with learning differences or special needs
  • Excellent communication, patience, and motivational skills to engage students effectively
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using e-mail, word processing, excel and other applications related to assigned duties
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to adhere to agreed upon schedule.
  • Approved background check.
