Medical Assistant - Heart Institute Ambulatory - 10-Hour - Full Time - Days

Join a fast-paced, high-volume cardiovascular clinic supporting approximately 100–170 patient visits per day. We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant who can work efficiently in a dynamic ambulatory environment while maintaining a strong focus on patient experience, safety, teamwork, and quality.

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team. Responsibilities include preparing patients and exam rooms, obtaining and documenting patient information, supporting patient flow, performing routine clinical services within scope, and assisting with administrative and follow-up activities.

 

Responsibilities

• Obtain and document patient histories and vital signs in the EMR.
• Perform EKGs and collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
• Prepare, clean, and stock exam and procedure rooms.
• Support efficient patient flow in a high-volume cardiovascular clinic.
• Ensure relevant test results and records are available before patient visits.
• Assist with patient check-out, follow-up testing, referrals, and related coordination.
• Perform general administrative duties, including scanning, filing, faxing, and telephone support.
• Follow infection-prevention, specimen-handling, safety, and departmental procedures.
• Provide a professional and patient-centered experience while balancing multiple competing priorities.
• Adapt to changing workflows and the needs of multiple cardiovascular specialties.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a medical office, ambulatory care facility, or medical group practice.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high-volume clinical environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous cardiology or cardiovascular clinic experience strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting both adult and pediatric patients is a plus.
• Active California phlebotomy license strongly preferred.

 

California Phlebotomy Requirement

Candidates who do not currently hold the required California phlebotomy license may still be considered. The selected Medical Assistant will be required to independently obtain the applicable California phlebotomy license within the first year of employment.

A phlebotomy certificate obtained as part of a Medical Assistant training program does not by itself satisfy this requirement.

Successful candidates should be motivated to begin the licensing process promptly after hire and complete it within the required timeframe.
