About the role

  • The Medical Assistant/Limited X-Ray Technician (MA/LXT) is responsible for providing exceptional patient care in a fast-paced urgent care environment. This role supports providers with clinical and administrative duties while performing diagnostic X-rays within the scope of a California Limited X-Ray Technician license. The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, team-oriented, and committed to delivering an outstanding patient experience.

What you'll do

  • Welcome patients and provide a warm, professional experience from check-in through discharge.
  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, medication reconciliation, and allergies.
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during procedures.
  • Perform point-of-care testing including COVID-19, Influenza, Strep, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, glucose testing, and other CLIA-waived testing.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for processing and shipment.
  • Administer medications, injections, and vaccinations as ordered by the provider and within scope of practice.
  • Perform EKGs, wound care, splinting, suture removal, ear lavage, nebulizer treatments, and other clinical procedures as directed.
  • Clean, disinfect, and stock exam rooms while maintaining infection prevention standards.
  • Accurately document patient information and clinical tasks in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Limited X-Ray Duties

  • Perform diagnostic radiographic exams in accordance with provider orders and state regulations.
  • Ensure proper patient positioning, radiation safety, and image quality.
  • Verify patient identity and explain imaging procedures.
  • Upload and transmit images to radiologists for interpretation.
  • Maintain radiology equipment and report equipment concerns promptly.
  • Follow all radiation safety guidelines and quality assurance protocols.

Administrative Duties

  • Assist with patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and phone inquiries as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete assigned administrative tasks.
  • Support inventory management by monitoring and restocking medical supplies.
  • Assist with opening and closing clinic procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification (or state-recognized equivalent).
  • California Limited X-Ray Technician (LXT) certification.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).

Preferred

  • Minimum of one year of experience in an urgent care, emergency department, or primary care setting.
  • Experience performing digital radiography.
  • Experience with occupational medicine, workers' compensation, or pre-employment services.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced urgent care setting with scheduled and walk-in patients.
  • May require weekends, evenings, and holiday shifts.
  • Open to traveling to other locations as needed
