Position Summary:
We are looking for a motivated Senior Requirements Engineer to specialize in EMS controls and Power Conversion Systems for utility-scale battery energy storage systems. The candidate will develop technical requirements aligned with business goals and objectives.
As part of the engineering team, the Sr. Requirements Engineer will create control system and power conversion system specifications that meet all project requirements, guide control system technologies, and implement processes for global utility-scale energy storage solutions. Familiarity with power systems, utility scale inverters, utility generation, protection and transmission, modern industrial networks, and utility communication protocols is required.
Responsibilities:
- Develop Technical Requirements: Create and maintain technical requirements for battery energy storage control systems and Power Conversion Systems (PCS) in line with company goals and industry standards.
- Cyber security: Develop a set of security requirements and templates.
- Review Project-Specific Requirements: Carefully review and ensure project-specific requirements for control systems and Power Conversion Systems are met.
- Negotiate and Develop Requirements Management: Develop comprehensive requirements management strategies tailored to specific client needs and industry requirements.
- Track Applicable Standards: Monitor applicable standards and analyze their implications on our products, communicating these to the R&D, commercial, and engineering teams.
- Certification Testing Solutions: Assist in finding solutions to challenges related to certification testing.
- Examine Test Samples: Read and understand schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions to examine test samples.
- Conduct Risk Assessments: Identify potential compliance risks and vulnerabilities within our products, developing strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
- Regular Reporting: Report regularly to the business team and relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Utilize and maintain AI tools for developing technical requirements.
- Utilize and maintain version control tools to make sure the requirements are traceable, auditable, and change-managed throughout the lifecycle.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in the design and implementation of global compliance standards for products such as SCADA and EMS, batteries, electrical systems, HVAC, inverters, or other industrial products.
- Knowledge of UL & IEC requirements. Knowledge of NERC-CIP cyber security requirements.
- Experience with regional and global regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of battery-related standards such as IEC62619, UL1973, IEC62933-5-1/-2, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855, ISO-27019
- Proven success in working independently, handling multiple tasks, and determining priorities in a team environment, balanced by an ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines or functional groups.
- Deep understanding of battery systems.
- Participation in compliance or standard-related councils is a plus.
