Job Summary

Support, enforce, and follow SQF, GMP, HACCP / Food Safety, Safety policies and procedures as well as CDI’s own standards of excellence. Food Safety and Quality are the primary responsibilities of this position. Food Safety Technician’s main responsibility is focus on eliminating food safety risks in the environment within the plant, including but not limited to high hygiene areas, hotspots, and environmental out of specification results.

 

Essential Functions

  • Execute the food safety sanitation of the plant in accordance with CDI Sanitation Programs.
  • Ensure that all high-hygiene areas are kept clean, organized and stocked with hand wash supplies.
  • Ensure that pest and environmental hot spots and harborage points are maintained cleaned and sanitized.
  • Ensure chemical jugs, containers and dispensers that are being utilized are all properly labeled in accordance with OSHA and CDI requirements.
  • Accountable for understanding various cleaning chemicals and their appropriate applications. Respond to Environmental Monitoring OOS results, ensuring proper policies are followed.
  • Involved in Root Cause Analysis Investigations relative to Finished Products and Environmental results.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, orderly, and neat work area.
  • Responsible for all work being done in a timely fashion and done properly.
  • Responsible for training new hires.
  • Inventory of sanitation supplies and submit to QA department, to ensure adequate cleaning and sanitation supplies are available.
  • Assist QA with pest exclusion and investigations.
  • Complete all QA paperwork neatly and correctly.
  • Adhere to all company policies, including Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)/Food Safety protocols, and established safety and workplace rules.
  • Available to work hours before or after shift if needed and requested by management.
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of company tools laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance at work in support of company objectives.
  • Must have the ability to get along with co-workers, management personnel, customers, vendors, and employees in accordance with the company policies and working rules while ensuring a harmonious and conducive work environment.
  • Use initiative and judgment in making decisions, keeping California Dairies, Inc. best interests.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute towards a quality environment.
  • Support and enforce SQF / QA, GMP, Safety policies and procedures, and production needs.  “Food Safety and Quality” are the responsibilities of this position.

  • Must be able to operate the equipment effectively after the appropriate break-in period.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 years of food production and/or sanitation experience required. 
  • Previous Food Safety or Quality experience highly preferred. 
  • Experience in mixing, titration and using of cleaning and sanitizing chemicals preferred. 

 

Language Skills

English is required as the written and spoken language. 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Microbiological education certification preferred. 
  • Leadership certification, training and or equivalent experience preferred.

 

Driving Requirements – N/A

 

Equipment

Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to: hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, gloves, and safety glasses must be used in the performance of duties. Proper lifting techniques must be employed at all times.

 

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Employee will be subject to temperatures from 34 to over 100 degrees.
