About this role

The Member Services Assistant supports the Office of Recreation & Wellness by handling memberships and program registrations, ensuring exceptional customer service. This position involves managing fiscal transactions, assisting guests, maintaining facility standards, and enforcing departmental policies to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. MSAs gain hands-on experience in customer service, problem-solving, time management, and operations within a collegiate recreation setting. They report to the Assistant Director of Operations and the Operations Graduate Assistant and may assist with special events, tours, and projects as needed.

Work Schedule:

6-12 hours per week; Weekdays, Weekends; Mornings, Afternoons, Evenings, Night

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist with oversight of facility access and the front desk. 

  • Assist with fiscal transactions and program registrations for the Department of Recreation and Wellness as needed.

  • Maintain the quality of the facility and equipment through detailed inspection and reporting. 

  • Provide exemplary customer service to all members and guests. 

  • Represent the Department of Recreation and Wellness in a professional manner at all times. 

  • Establish and maintain a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all members and guests. 

  • Assist in the enforcement and execution of policies and procedures set forth by the department. 

  • Respond as needed to emergency situations, following the Emergency Action Plan. 

  • Make sound, time-sensitive decisions based on the department’s mission and vision. 

  • Provide tours for guests visiting the facility. 

  • Assist with special events taking place as needed. 

  • Attend all required meetings and trainings as scheduled. 

  • Assist with special projects and tasks as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Butler University. 

  • Must be in good academic standing. 

  • Must be able to attend all mandatory trainings, including the Annual All Staff Training at the start of each Fall semester. 

  • Must have or obtain American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience working with diverse populations. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication. 

  • Customer service background.
