Wiring Diagram Designer
About this role
- Produce accurate, complete point-to-point wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and schematic support drawings in AutoCAD using BPP tool palettes, custom blocks, and title block standards.
- Manage your own workload against project schedules. Communicate capacity issues or risks to the Head of EE Design before they impact delivery.
- Incorporate revisions, redlines, and as-built feedback from Production and Manufacturing Engineering into drawings.
- Coordinate directly with EE leads, project engineers, and PMs on scope clarifications, drawing version control, and SO# specific requirements.
- Follow company drafting conventions for layer naming, block usage, wire tagging, terminal mapping, and annotation. Flag gaps in the standards when you hit them.
- Participate in drawing reviews, both as the designer of record and as a peer reviewer when asked.
- Support process improvement efforts within the wiring design group. Contribute to checklists, quick-reference docs, and block libraries as they get built out.
- Stay current on applicable standards (NEC, UL 891, UL 1558, ANSI/IEEE) as they apply to panel wiring, labeling, and construction. Raise code or standards questions to EE leads when something in a customer spec or drawing package looks off.
- 3+ years of electrical drafting experience, preferably in switchgear, control panels, or industrial power distribution.
- Proficient in AutoCAD. Comfortable with tool palettes, custom blocks, dynamic blocks, and layer management.
- Able to read and interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, and customer specs without hand-holding.
- Working knowledge of NEC, UL 891, UL 1558, and ANSI/IEEE standards as they apply to panel wiring, labeling, and clearances.
- Strong attention to detail. Can catch the small stuff (wire tag mismatches, terminal numbering errors, wire sizing, missing revisions) before it leaves your desk.
- Clear written and verbal communication. Can push back when something doesn’t look right.
- Experience with switchgear, PDUs, or data center power equipment.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or similar schematic-capture tools.
- Exposure to SharePoint-based document control workflows.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment with direct shop floor interaction.

At Butcher Power Products (BPP), we are redefining what it means to be a power solutions manufacturer. While initially born out of frustration with complacency, long lead times, and sub-par quality in the space, we have scaled with a relentless dedication to being better in every area...not just delivery times. That commitment has built our reputation as true disruptors of the industry.
With over 100 years of electrical distribution expertise, a 100,000+ sq ft manufacturing footprint in Sacramento, CA and a culture grounded in integrity and accountability, we deliver mission-critical and industrial power solutions at scale...faster, better and without compromise.
What sets BPP apart is our ability to handle capacity without limits, our people who care deeply about solving problems instead of making excuses and our commitment to real manufacturing...no imports disguised as domestic builds. Every product is engineered and manufactured in-house to the highest standards. And when mistakes happen, we own them, fix them and put processes in place to ensure they don’t happen again. That is why national developers, distributors, hyperscalers, and contractors nationwide trust us with their most critical projects.
Our offerings include UL 891 switchboards, EUSERC utility-metered switchboards, medium voltage switchgear from 5 to 38 kV, static and automatic transfer switches, power distribution units, remote power panels and UL 67 panelboards.
