Senior Software Engineer - Backend (Lending)

On-site

About this role

About the Role

At BukuWarung, the Senior Software Engineer — Lending will be responsible for building a scalable, fail-safe, and secure application that also complies with regulation. Lending is a domain where a large number of data points come in from external and partner services — which means strong data consistency is a must, and the system has to scale without compromising correctness, security, or compliance.

The Mission

We are at the stage where scaling means integration. We are establishing Lending as a platform across BukuWarung products, which brings a rapidly growing set of partner and internal integrations. Your mission is to build a system with a strong foundation to scale — in its architecture and in how the system is designed — so that Lending can serve every BukuWarung product reliably and safely.

What You’ll Do

  • Own Ambiguous Problems: Turn unclear lending problems — partner integrations, disbursement, repayment, reconciliation — into credible technical plans, and own outcomes end-to-end.

  • Design for Consistency: Architect services that guarantee strong data consistency across external and partner data flows, with idempotency and failure handling built in.

  • Ship Safely: Treat testing, observability, safe rollouts, and rollback thinking as part of the work — high-risk changes ship with explicit readiness, and compliance is designed in, not bolted on.

  • Modernize the Platform: Help drive the migration from Java 11 / Spring Boot 2.6 to Java 21 / Spring Boot 3.x — incrementally and safely, without disrupting a live lending system.

  • Engineer with AI: Use AI agents to accelerate coding, debugging, and documentation while owning correctness — and turn what works into reusable workflows for the team.

  • Quality & Mentorship: Write clean, testable code and raise the engineering bar through rigorous code and design reviews.

  • Close Loops: Drive execution across product, QA, platform, risk, and external partners — communicating trade-offs and risks clearly and escalating early with options.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: 4–6 years of backend engineering building distributed systems; fintech, lending, payments, or other regulated domains a strong plus.

  • Java Depth: Strong Java and Spring Boot fundamentals, with hands-on experience in modern Java (17/21) and Spring Boot 3.x — ideally including migration or upgrade work on production systems.

  • Architecture: Strong design judgment — modular, maintainable services with real depth in data consistency, idempotency, and event-driven patterns (Kafka).

  • Reliability & Security Mindset: Observability, rollback awareness, and secure defaults are part of your implementation, not afterthoughts.

  • Ownership: You clarify ambiguous requirements with explicit assumptions, surface risk early, and drive issues to resolution rather than just highlighting them.

  • AI with Judgment: You use AI to move faster without a drop in quality — and can explain how you validated AI-assisted work.

  • Multiplier Effect: Clear communication in design notes and PRs; other engineers get better from working with you.
