Nursing Assistant – Role Summary
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nursing Assistant provides direct patient care and support from admission through discharge. This role focuses on assisting with basic medical, personal, and rehabilitation needs while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care Support
- Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility)
- Support rehabilitation activities and patient ambulation
Clinical Tasks
- Perform basic nursing assistant skills per RI Department of Health standards
- Observe, document, and report patient conditions and changes to RN
- Maintain accurate records in the electronic health record (EHR)
Safety & Environment
- Maintain infection control and safety standards
- Identify and report unsafe conditions or faulty equipment
- Assist in emergency/code situations when needed
Collaboration
- Work closely with RNs to prioritize and organize patient care
- Contribute to a team-focused, patient-centered environment
Required Qualifications
- Active Rhode Island Nursing Assistant license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
- Basic computer skills
- High school diploma (preferred)
- Ability to care for patients across all age groups and backgrounds
Preferred Experience
- At least 1 year of experience as a Nursing Assistant
Work Environment
- Healthcare settings (hospitals, clinics, etc.)
- Physically active role (standing, walking, lifting patients, bending)
