Role Description/Purpose
The purpose of this role is to actively pursue new business opportunities across our B2B English business, including Teaching and Assessment and School Exam Services. The role will cover a large market, geographic region, or key industries, identifying new opportunities and prospects, reaching out to establish connections, and managing inbound leads to qualify and convert them. There may also be team leadership responsibilities in locations with larger teams.
Role Accountabilities
The British Council is seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to support the growth of our English & Examinations (E&E) business across the B2B sector. Our vision is to be the world authority in high-quality English language teaching, learning and assessment, as well as the international distributor of choice for UK professional and school qualifications. In this role, you will identify and develop new business opportunities, build relationships with education institutions, governments and corporate organisations, and manage inbound and outbound sales activity to drive customer acquisition and revenue growth across our portfolio of English language training, assessments and examination services.
Working across a defined territory or market, you will use business intelligence, networking and prospecting strategies to generate and qualify leads, understand client needs and convert opportunities into long-term partnerships. You will maintain accurate sales data and market intelligence through CRM systems, contribute to sales and marketing performance reporting, and collaborate closely with colleagues to strengthen the British Council's market position and customer engagement.
As a team manager, you will lead and support Business Development Officers to achieve business targets and performance goals, ensuring high standards of customer service, lead management and sales effectiveness. You will provide coaching, monitor performance, coordinate customer engagement activities and help create a culture of continuous improvement that delivers sustainable growth and value for our customers.
Qualifications & Experience
- University degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or discipline
- Sales or Marketing qualifications
- 3+ years experience of sales and/or account/customer management
- Familiarity with Salesforce or use of similar CRM and prospecting tools
- Familiar with business and market intelligence

Language: Local language (e.g. Spanish) at C2 level for speaking and writing. English level at C2 speaking and writing
Benefits:
- 23 working days of Annual Leave (pro-rated to the number of days worked in a calendar year)
- 13-month salary: Equivalent to one month’s basic salary, paid in December on a pro-rata basis
- Medical Coverage: The British Council provides medical coverage for you and your immediate family (spouse and children only), covering hospitalization and outpatient care (OPD) within agreed limits. Medical coverage is subject to change at management’s discretion.
