Role Summary

As part of the Process Technology & Systems Integration team, you will play a key role in defining, developing, and integrating core process technologies that enable gigawatt-scale deployment of Bloom’s Energy Server platform. The team is focused on front-end engineering, including functional design, system integration, and support during FEED and project execution to ensure performance and design compliance. The successful candidate will play a central role in detailed process and systems engineering, driving functional design development and advancing system integration while shaping project definition and execution to enable cost-effective, scalable deployment across multiple product platforms and applications, including decarbonized power solutions for gigawatt-scale data centers.

Impact

This role will be instrumental in establishing Bloom Energy’s internal capability to own and scale critical technologies, enabling cost reduction, improved performance, and accelerating deployment of next-generation energy systems.

Key Responsibilities

Process Technology Concept Development & Functional Design

  • Lead and/or support the development of functional designs for key process systems.
  • Translate high-level system requirements into well-defined process architecture, design bases, and performance specifications.
  • Develop and own Design Basis Memoranda, process descriptions, mass and energy balances, and interface definitions across process subsystems.
  • Support project development efforts, including early-stage concept definition, feasibility assessments, and techno-economic evaluations.
  • Drive technology down-selection and concept maturation, ensuring robust integration across subsystem interfaces while balancing performance, cost, operability, and scalability.
  • Serve as the integration lead for complex, multi-system projects, ensuring that all process subsystems function as a cohesive, optimized plant-level system.

FEED, Project Development, & External Interfacing

  • Serve as a technical lead or key contributor during FEED activities.
  • Develop and/or support FEED scopes of work, engineering deliverables, and execution strategies.
  • Ensure completeness, technical rigor, and consistency of FEED deliverables, including alignment with downstream execution, operability, and performance requirements.
  • Interface with internal technology, engineering, EH&S, and project execution teams to define requirements, manage subsystem interfaces, and ensure alignment across design and execution.
  • Act as the primary technical interface with third-party technology providers, licensors, EPC firms, and Owner’s Engineer organizations, providing technical oversight and ensuring delivery of high-quality, fit-for-purpose solutions aligned with Bloom’s system architecture, requirements, and standards.
  • Make high-quality engineering decisions under uncertainty, balancing incomplete data, competing project constraints, and evolving requirements.
  • Act as the technical owner for assigned projects, accountable for the integrity, integration, and performance of the process design.

Technology Commercialization & Standardization

  • Support the integration and deployment of process technologies into commercial projects, ensuring performance, reliability, and cost targets are met.
  • Drive standardization and modularization of process system designs to enable repeatable, scalable deployment.
  • Ensure cross-disciplinary integration and manage critical interfaces, technical risks, and design gaps across systems and stakeholders.
  • Capture lessons learned from project execution and translate them into continuous improvement of process and system designs.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering (or a closely related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in process engineering, project engineering, or technology development, ideally within:
    • Chemical manufacturing
    • Oil & gas / energy
    • Industrial gases
    • Power generation or related sectors
  • Hands-on experience developing functional design documentation, including FEED and/or equipment RFPs
  • Experience developing, reviewing, and approving key engineering deliverables, including:
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Equipment specifications and datasheets
    • System integration documentation (e.g., battery limits, interface definitions)
    • Control narratives and system philosophies
    • Electrical one-line diagrams (as required for system integration)
  • Experience with process safety analyses (e.g., HAZOP, PHA); experience leading HAZOPs/PHAs is a plus.
  • Supported or led FEED activities.
  • Experience working with third-party engineering firms and/or EPC contractors, including:
    • During FEED and/or detailed design
    • In a client, partner, or Owner’s Engineer role
  • Strong understanding of process safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Preferred

  • Direct experience with CO₂ capture technologies
  • Familiarity with industrial utility systems such as cooling water, condensate, and gas processing
  • Experience working in project development environments, including early-stage concept definition and techno-economic evaluation
  • Exposure to the full lifecycle of chemical process projects, from concept development through commissioning and startup
  • Experience leading or contributing to securing air and construction permits for greenfield or brownfield projects
  • Proficiency with process simulation tools such as Aspen Plus or UniSim.
  • Strong ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in complex, evolving project environments
  • Proven capability to coordinate across internal teams and external partners to deliver multi-disciplinary projects
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences
