Senior Medical Science Liaison (Location: Sydney or Melbourne)

About this role

The MSL position is a field-based customer facing role, activities should be customer key medical experts focused with the intent to maximise medical interactions with healthcare professionals which can include face to face, virtual, telephone or email based on the needs of the customer and medical team. Approximately 50-70% travel is expected in the role:

  • Acts as a scientific expert knowledgeable of Biogen products, disease state and competitors
  • Establishes long term scientific/strategic relationships with leading specialists (physicians nurses, allied health), and with related medical societies and academic centers of excellence
  • Ensures KMEs and organisations have access to relevant scientific information
  • Facilitates KME involvement in educational forums and advisory boards to optimize scientific knowledge exchange
  • Serves as an important partner to internal stakeholders through communication of relevant information
  • Gather insights and feedback to the business to shape medical strateg

Key Responsibilities:

  • KME Engagement
    • Execute a high standard and blended approach to all customer engagements using a multi-channel approach, balancing both face to face and/or digital/virtual interactions
    • Identify KMEs in specified therapeutic area and work in collaboration with cross-functional counterparts in engaging KMEs from a medical perspective
    • Develop, maintain and implement KME engagement plans to build and maintain strong scientific relationships such that Biogen is recognised as an industry partner of choice
    • Plan KME visits and utilise the CRM database to record HCP interactions
    • Provide current, accurate and balanced scientific education to HCPs and facilitate data discussions in relevant therapeutic areas
    • Source and brief international and local speakers for national and state meetings according to internal process
    • Reactively explore & facilitate clinician driven ideas for company sponsored trials, investigator initiated research and other sponsored research agreements.
    • Act as a liaison between investigators and Biogen ensuring regular communication regarding the progress of investigator initiated research proposals.
  • Internal Collaboration
    • Ensure Strategic Account Management (SMA) by working with relevant cross-functional counterparts to address specific regional needs from a medical perspective in alignment with both medical and commercial brand plans
    • Participate in respective integrated brand team meetings to provide in-field medical updates, trends, insights and competitor intelligence
    • Contribute to in-field medical training of commercial team and be available as a medical resource for the sales team
    • Support Medical management in the coordination of advisory board meetings/steering committees, including speaker briefings
    • Collaborate with relevant medical and commercial team/s to develop strategy and execute tactics on communication of complex scientific information to relevant healthcare professionals
    • Collaborate with Global Clinical Operations and Medical management with respect to clinical trial execution for example site identification and site Initiation visits
    • Collaborate with Medical management to drive approval and set-up of appropriate company sponsored trials, investigator initiated research and other sponsored research agreements.
  • Scientific Data Knowledge and Communication
    • Collaborate with Medical management to generate high quality approved medical and scientific presentations aligned to medical strategy
    • Keep up to date with the relevant medical literature
    • Discuss, analyse and educate on appropriate medical and scientific publications and clinical study findings in collaboration with Medical management
    • As requested, attend national and international conferences and provide a medical summary of these conferences to internal stakeholders
    • Provide scientific presentations to individual physicians or groups of physicians, for example scientific seminars, round table or small group meetings
    • Maintain compliance within the Medicines Australia and Biogen frameworks for business acumen and codes of conduct
    • Maintain 100% training compliance on all allocated courses and internal standard operating procedures
    • And other job duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in science, pharmacy or medicine
  • 3+ years-experience in the bio/pharmaceutical industry, rare disease therapy and/or neurology experience is preferred.
  • Strong functional & technical skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate complex data to different audiences
  • Strong team player, collaborator and interpersonal skills
  • Customer focused both internal and external
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of current digital tools and techniques and their implementation
