Founding AI Engineer

Bild AI is building the intelligence layer that turns messy blueprints, permits, and construction documents into actionable insights to make building more efficient and equitable. This founding role focuses on state-of-the-art CV and multimodal AI to prototype and ship systems that reduce friction in cost estimation and permit workflows, directly impacting housing, hospitals, and schools.

What youll do

• Apply state-of-the-art computer vision, LLM, and multimodal AI techniques to real-world construction documents.
• Prioritize the intelligence layer (modeling, data pipelines, and inference) over the application UI.
• Rapidly prototype models and iterate on them based on user feedback and real data.
• Build and deploy production AI systems that operate on noisy, heterogeneous inputs.
• Collaborate closely with product and users to surface and solve high-impact problems.
• Embrace pragmatic engineering work, including data labeling, ETL, and deployment tasks when needed.
• Communicate progress and tradeoffs with empathy and transparency across the team.

What Bild AI is looking for

• Applied computer vision and machine learning experience, with hands-on work training and deploying models.
• 0-to-1 builder mindset: experience launching AI systems into production or building core parts of a new product.
• Familiarity with state-of-the-art CV, LLM, and multimodal model approaches and tooling.
• Comfortable iterating quickly and improving prototypes from user feedback.
• Strong communication skills and a growth mindset; honest, empathetic collaborator.
• Willingness to handle practical engineering work (“don’t mind schlep”) as part of a small team.
• Impact-driven orientation and, ideally, experience building something people used or paid for.
• Location: San Francisco-based or willing to relocate, full-time in-office; US work authorization required.
• Experience level: any (new grads welcome).
