The Role
The Youth Sports Instructor is responsible for working with youth to educate them on a skillset in a specified sport, with a focus on basketball. The instructor is responsible for coordinating, implementing and promoting the athletics program for BGCWPA. At times, you may be the referee for game play in addition to the instructor

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to teach specified athletic program skill sets to students that emphasize on the technique, rules, and strategies of the play.
  • Ability to coach and teach basketball 
  • Ability to teach sportsmanship, cooperation, and responsibility to team members.
  • Demonstrates through experience, a commitment to devote extended day hours to include nights and weekends.
  • Ability to supervise and conduct safe practices and contests.
  • Ability to encourage all athletes and offer fair play for each student that wishes to participate.
  • Ability to positively promote recruitment efforts representing BGCWPA.
  • Ability to respond to player injuries by using first aid techniques.
  • Ability to supervise youth.
  • Ability to communicate with parents/guardians professionally.
  • Understands the rules of the sport.
  • Conducts other duties assigned by the Clubhouse Leadership and Sports Manager

Your Skills And Experiences 

  • At a minimum a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years’ experience in organized coaching and/or sports play, with an emphasis on basketball
  • Dependable and reliable
  • Advanced positive customer service skills needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth, families, staff, and outside agencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
  • Proficient in Google Suite.
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine fingered dexterity. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
  • Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors. 

Certifications and Clearances 

BGCPWA prioritizes the safety of the youth we serve. CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse, Criminal History, FBI clearance, NSOR certificate, PA Disclosure, PA Staff Health Assessment, TB Test, and Mandated Reporter certification required upon hire or within 6 months.

Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Carnegie, Shadyside, or Lawrenceville - Pittsburgh, PA
Hours: 8:00am - 8:00pm (Up to 29.5 hours per week; times may vary)
Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Compensation: Starting salary of $17 an hour
