Our Golf Course Superintendent provides leadership to an important function that is responsible for all aspects of golf course maintenance, ensuring turfgrass conditions and club landscaping meet established standards and elevating the overall course experience. Under the leadership of the General Manager, this role promotes high-level hospitality and golf course conditions for members and their guests with the goal of enhancing the image and member experience of Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club.
 
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
  • Develops annual budgets and capital plans for review and approval of the General Manager, Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees. Manages expenses within the department in accordance with the property directive.
  • Maintains ongoing awareness of all agronomic activity on the course and provides constant feedback and direction to key staff members.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs all agronomy activities and maintenance of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, transition areas, and club landscaping.
  • Maintains a clear understanding of and implements all Troon Golf Agronomy standards, in addition to ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory standards and laws.
  • Supervises the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turfgrasses, trees, and ornamental plants.
  • Ensures proper mixing, calibration, and application of all chemicals and fertilizers used on the course.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting of all financial and non-financial information as directed, requested, or required by the General Manager and Troon Vice President of Agronomy.
  • Ensures that maintenance equipment is properly maintained.
  • Reconciles and provides timely coding of all invoices, payroll, and other required documents.
  • Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
  • Ensures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Implements sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible.
  • Ensures that all associates obtain proper training and licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations. Directly addresses all real or perceived environmental concerns.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensures both upward and downward communication within the department and inter-departmentally.
  • Provides leadership and a positive working environment that fosters teamwork, communication, ethical behavior, cleanliness, and a can-do attitude.
  • Directly supervises department members that may include, but are not limited to: Assistant Superintendent, Second Assistant Superintendent, Head Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor suitable for a private club environment.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, and two to five years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, or plant and soil science.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Pesticide license preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Regularly stands, walks, and sits.
  • Regularly uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, and talks or hears.
  • Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes, or smells.
  • Regularly lifts up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 100 lbs.
ENVIRONMENT/NOISE:
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Noise level is moderate.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Pesticide Application License.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY PREFERENCES:
  • Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g., the associate may be required to communicate with English-speaking customers or co-workers, and the manuals for the equipment the associate may use are in English).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).
  • Outstanding communication skills — written and verbal — are required to interact with members, senior leadership, other departments, outside agencies and vendors, and colleagues.
  • Independent thinker with outstanding time management skills — ability to manage priorities and schedules that change on a daily basis.
  • Strong communication skills and proficient knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Available for evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills: time management, attention to detail, ability to self-start. Strong work ethic.
