Job Title: Superintendent
Employer: Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc.
Reports to: Construction Manager/Project Manager
Position Summary
The Superintendent provides onsite leadership and supervision for all construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to quality standards. This role coordinates crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and project stakeholders while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and project specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily construction operations and field personnel.
- Coordinate multiple crews, subcontractors, and equipment resources.
- Develop and maintain short-term and long-term construction schedules.
- Ensure work is performed according to project plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Monitor productivity and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Enforce company and OSHA safety standards.
- Participate in site and crew safety meetings
- Perform weekly jobsite EHS inspections.
- Identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Assist the investigation of incidents and implement corrective measures.
- Promote a strong safety culture among all employees and subcontractors.
- Supervise foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
- Schedule manpower requirements to meet production goals.
- Mentor and develop field personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching.
Quality Control
- Ensure work meets project specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate inspections and testing activities.
- Review completed work and address deficiencies promptly.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and reports.
Equipment and Material Management
- Coordinate equipment utilization and maintenance.
- Track material deliveries and inventory.
- Ensure proper allocation of resources to maximize efficiency.
- Monitor equipment productivity and fuel usage.
Client and Stakeholder Coordination
- Interface with owners, engineers, inspectors, and utility companies.
- Attend project meetings and progress reviews.
- Resolve field conflicts and constructability issues.
- Communicate project status to Project Managers and senior leadership.
Required Education/Skills and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience
- 8-15+ years of heavy civil construction experience.
- 5+ years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
- Proven experience managing:
- Highway and roadway construction
- Mass earthwork operations
- Underground utilities
- Bridge construction
- Marine construction
- Concrete structures
Technical Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Construction drawings
- Specifications
- Survey layouts
- Project schedules
- Knowledge of:
- OSHA regulations
- DOT requirements
- Quality control procedures
- CPM scheduling
- Excavation and trenching practices
Skills
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Advanced planning and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with construction management software.
- Cost awareness and production tracking expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- NCCER Superintendent Certification.
- Experience with GPS machine control and drone technology.
- Experience managing projects exceeding $10 million.
- Familiarity with Primavera P6, Procore, HCSS, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent walking on uneven terrain and active construction sites.
- Ability to climb ladders, access structures, and inspect work areas.
- Capable of working extended hours, weekends, and occasional night shifts as required.
