Surfboard Repair Technician

Location: Bahrain Surf Park, Bilaj Al Jazayer
Reporting to: Head of Operations

You Are Part of What We Are and What We Do

Our Vision at Bahrain Surf Park is to bring surfing to the nation, and develop passion for health, wellbeing and fun through Waves for All.

We will attract visitors from all continents, growing Bahrain's surf and beach culture, and act as a catalyst to establish Bahrain not only as the Premier Surf Destination of the Middle East, but as a leading destination for fun — with Water, Waves and Surfing at our core.

We will create smiles, happiness, and wellbeing through safe fun activities for all backgrounds, abilities and generations, now and into the future.

Overview and Purpose of Your Role

The Surfboard Repair Technician is a vital member of the Surf Ops team at Bahrain Surf Park, responsible for keeping our entire fleet of surfboards in safe, high-quality condition for our guests every single day.

Operating out of our on-site repair workshop, you will carry out a full range of repairs on both epoxy and PU/polyester surfboards — from minor ding fixes to structural and delamination repairs — ensuring every board meets our safety and quality standards before it goes back in the water.

You will be responsible for daily board assessments, repair triage, workshop management and consumables stock, working closely with the Surf Academy Manager and Head of Operations to prioritise repairs around the operational needs of the park. You will also be responsible for repairing guests' and privately owned surfboards.

This is a hands-on, craft-focused role that requires real technical skill, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine passion for the quality of the equipment our guests use.

Role Responsibilities

Board Assessment & Triage

  • Conduct a thorough pre-opening inspection of all surfboards each day, assessing every board for damage before it enters service.
  • Triage boards by damage severity, categorising each as ready-to-use, requiring repair, or to be decommissioned.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date board condition log, tracking repair status, turnaround times and board lifecycle.
  • Escalate any structural integrity or safety concerns to management immediately and remove affected boards from service.

Repair & Maintenance

  • Carry out the full range of surfboard repairs: ding repairs, crack fixes, nose and tail damage, delamination, snapped boards and structural rebuilds.
  • Work across both epoxy and PU/polyester construction, applying the correct resin systems, techniques and curing processes to each.
  • Cut, lay and laminate fibreglass cloth as required, mixing resin to the correct ratios for each repair type and ambient conditions.
  • Sand, shape and finish repaired areas to a professional standard — smooth, flush and visually clean.
  • Carry out maintenance on soft-top (foam-deck) boards, including deck re-gluing, nose and tail protection and base repair.
  • Fit and replace fin boxes, fins, leash plugs and traction pads as required.
  • Maintain the repair workshop in a clean, organised and fully operational condition at all times.

Equipment & Inventory

  • Manage the stock of all repair consumables: resins, hardeners, fibreglass cloth, sandpaper, pigments, fin systems and PPE.
  • Place orders for workshop supplies in good time, maintaining a minimum stock level to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Maintain all workshop tools and equipment — electric sanders, drills, cutting tools and curing equipment — in safe and functional condition.
  • Contribute to board lifecycle planning, identifying boards approaching end-of-life and supporting procurement decisions.

Team & Operations

  • Work closely with Surf Instructors and Supervisors each day to align repair priorities with the operational schedule and guest demand.
  • Communicate clearly on board availability and estimated repair completion times so the team can plan sessions accordingly.
  • Support the wider Surf Ops team with general equipment duties and checks as directed by management.
  • Advise guests on basic board care and proper equipment handling to minimise damage.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Work safely at all times with industrial-strength resins, hardeners, fibreglass dust and power tools, wearing appropriate PPE including respirator, safety glasses and gloves.
  • Adhere strictly to all COSHH and chemical handling procedures, including safe storage, disposal and ventilation requirements.
  • Ensure the workshop meets all health and safety standards and that co-workers are not put at risk by your work.
  • Complete detailed incident and near-miss reports as required, and actively contribute to a culture of safety.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • Formal training in composite materials, fibreglass laminating, boat-building or a related technical or craft discipline is desirable but not essential.
  • Fluent English is required (B2 minimum); Arabic is a strong plus.

Experience

  • Proven hands-on experience in surfboard repair, working with both epoxy and PU/polyester board constructions.
  • Experience or familiarity with the Middle East environment and culture is a plus.

Professional Skills & Attributes

  • An ability to work under pressure, with the drive and determination to achieve the best results.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with power tools, electric sanders, drills and cutting equipment; capable of moderate lifting and sustained physical workshop work.

Personal Qualities

  • Meticulous and methodical — you take pride in producing work to the highest standard and never cut corners on a repair.
  • Self-motivated and proactive — you spot damage early, manage your own workload and keep the workshop running without needing to be chased.

Benefits and Perks

  • Attractive remuneration package with opportunity to grow
  • An amazing, unique work environment a few metres from the beach
  • Work alongside a dynamic, qualified and multicultural team
  • Opportunity to use the facilities and surf regularly in a state-of-the-art Wavegarden wavepool
  • Share the stoke and health benefits of surfing with an island nation new to the sport
  • Join a new and exciting growing industry
  • Medical insurance and holiday allowance (as per Bahraini Law)
  • Staff discounts
