Our Taranaki laboratory provides community pathology services, serving a population of approximately 125,000.
About the role |Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga
Our Patient Services department is looking for a Trainee or a Phlebotomist for a permanent, part-time role. This role is 64 hours per fortnight.
Responsibilities include:
- The key tasks include blood collection, responsible for handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, urine and preparing specimens for transportation.
- Provide professional customer service, and serve as a link between health professionals, their patients, and the laboratory.

To succeed in this role you will need:
- A positive and friendly approach to your work.
- Compassion for others, including a real desire to provide high-quality care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and circumstances.
- Excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation.
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.
- Respect for always ensuring patient confidentiality and in all matters.
- Diploma in Applied Science, or a Bachelor of Science would be an advantage, but not essential.
- Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Pre-Analytical Technician would be an advantage, but not essential.
- A clean New Zealand Driver’s Licence.
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
