Position Summary

Austin Retina Associates is seeking a responsible, self-motivated individual to assist in providing unparalleled patient satisfaction while verifying, communicating and tracking insurance.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Verify insurance for new patients, all insurance changes, review coverages, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible information to ensure that both patient and physician are aware of coverages prior to diagnosis and/or beginning of treatment
  • Assist with pre-authorization of inpatient treatments with insurance companies to ensure treatments are covered, verifying and communicating co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible information
  • Connect patients with subsidized or discounted coverage insurance options when eligible or available
  • Verify required referrals by contacting referring physician offices via phone, email, or fax
  • Communicate openly with co-workers via phone, electronic messages, and by updating patient chart notes in real time
  • Create records of documentation and communication with insurance companies and referring physicians. Will scan and input data into EMR/EHR systems including AMD, MDI and Practice Plus
  • Other administrative duties as needed

Required Attributes

  • Master multiple computer systems including Google, Microsoft Office, Teams, data management
  • Will master ophthalmology and retina terminology
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with referring doctors, practices, and patients
  • Strong organizational and follow through skills with competing demands and priorities
  • Previous experience in medical office, insurance or administration

  • Experienced with health insurance verification and physician referrals tracking
  • Bilingual in Spanish for inbound/outbound calls

Position Details

  • Schedule assigned by Supervisor, approximately 9-6 or 8-5 weekdays 8-5pm during weekdays
  • No travel required
  • Hourly pay, FLSA non-exempt, eligible for overtime

Physical Demands and Requirements

Prolonged sitting, some standing and walking, talking and hearing both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 10 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes continuous use of a computer terminal, viewing multiple computer screens, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Viewing images and operating computer devices constantly.
