Fullstack Software Engineer, DX

About this role

Overview

DX Fabric — The Context Engine for AI-Native Engineering

What we're building

DX Fabric is the foundational platform that equips engineering organizations with the architectural context, health signals, and impact measurement they need to thrive in the AI era. We're building the context engine that powers AI agents and high-performing teams — a unified software catalog, scorecards, and self-service platform that helps companies understand their entire software ecosystem, find bottlenecks, and drive real improvements at scale.

Think of it this way: as AI agents become part of every engineering workflow, someone needs to give them the context to do their job well — ownership, dependencies, standards, guardrails. That's us. We're building the layer that makes AI-native engineering actually work.

Why this team is different

We operate like a startup inside Atlassian. Our engineering team is intentionally small, which means every engineer owns a massive surface area and ships at extremely high velocity. There's zero fluff — minimal meetings, no bureaucracy, and a culture that maximizes builder time. You won't be handed a pixel-perfect spec and asked to code it. Engineers here think deeply about the end-to-end user experience, collaborate closely with product and design, and iterate quickly based on real customer feedback.

DX was recently acquired by Atlassian, which means you get the best of both worlds: the speed, ownership, and autonomy of a high-growth startup, backed by the resources, scale, and reach of a company whose products are used by hundreds of thousands of teams worldwide.

This role is open to candidates across all U.S. time zones, with a preference for Pacific or Mountain Time. This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Build and ship features and capabilities daily in a highly scalable, cross-geo distributed environment.

  • Focus on backend-heavy fullstack development, building robust REST APIs while contributing to customer-facing React components.

  • Review code with best practices of readability, testing patterns, documentation, reliability, security, and performance considerations in mind.

  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and product managers to understand user pain points and iterate on great solutions.

  • Ensure full visibility, error reporting, and monitoring of high-performing backend services.

  • Participate in Agile software development including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and team retrospectives.

What you'd work on

  • Systems Catalog — Mapping software entities, dependencies, and ownership across entire engineering organizations, creating the context layer that informs AI agents and developer tooling.

  • Scorecards — Defining standards and guardrails for both human engineers and AI agents, measuring progress, and surfacing what's actually moving the needle.

  • Self-Service & Agent Ops — Building automated workflows and agentic capabilities that close gaps against standards and let engineers help themselves.

  • Scale challenges — Fabric supports customers with hundreds of thousands of repositories. You'd be solving real infrastructure and data problems at enterprise scale.

Tech stack: Rails, React, TailwindCSS, PostgreSQL — we write a lot of SQL, do heavy database optimization, and keep our tech deliberately simple. We're focused on solving user problems well, not chasing the latest framework.

Qualifications

Your background:

  • 4+ years of experience building and developing backend applications with a lean towards fullstack capabilities.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferably a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience).

  • Proficiency in any modern object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Go, Scala, Python).

  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and supporting libraries (e.g., React, Node).

  • Experience crafting and implementing highly scalable and performant RESTful micro-services.

  • Fluency in at least one database technology (e.g., RDBMS like Postgres and/or NoSQL like DynamoDB).

  • Familiarity with cloud architecture patterns and hands-on experience with public cloud offerings (AWS preferred).

  • A passion for collaboration and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
