Reporting to the Engineering Director, Candu Field Services the Technical Manager, Reactor Inspection will support various reactor inspection projects and will be responsible for individuals executing such projects and the tooling systems. This manager will provide the technical oversight and will lead the technical strategy for Candu Field Services’ inspection programs.

Your role

Technical management:

  • Interfaces with clients and successfully delivers engineering products in accordance with customer specifications and requirements.
  • Establishes the technical approach to achieve project requirements and ensures the design satisfies these requirements.
  • Manages the design process and products configuration in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Ensures that the final deliverables from their team meet customer requirements specified in the contract and overall alignment with nuclear codes and standards.
  • Approves technical documents prepared by staff reporting to them.
  • Removes barriers that would impact deliverables to meet project requirements and priorities, working with the assigned staff to find solutions and optimizations.
  • Ensures that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Ensures that all design work is executed effectively and that suitable reviews are undertaken to ensure adequacy to project requirements.

Resource management:

  • Fosters a team environment and team building within Engineering and with internal and external customers.
  • Forecast resource demands for the assigned work scope, including skills, capabilities, and durations.
  • Defines the structure of the team for their scope of accountability, including reporting relationships.
  • Ensures all training and qualifications records are up-to-date, and required training and qualifications are completed/updated on time.
  • Performs all recruiting and disciplinary functions for the assigned team.
  • Ensures resources are properly aligned and balanced across the various CFS projects and programs in order to broaden experience of junior personnel.
  • Ensures mentorship of junior engineering staff by the more senior engineering staff.
  • Provides clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, recognizes and rewards achievements, and takes disciplinary steps when warranted.
  • Plans and executes work consistent with quality, cost and schedule requirements.

About you

  • University degree in an applicable field of engineering or science.
  • Holder of Professional Engineering License in the Province of Ontario.
  • 8 years of progressive nuclear experience in a discipline and field of application relevant to the work being managed, including experience leading technical teams.
  • An appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry considered an asset.
  • Expert knowledge in the design and operation of tooling for use in a nuclear environment.
  • Expert knowledge in the application of visual inspection, non-destructive examination and portable metrology instrumentation.
  • Expert knowledge of design practices for foreign material exclusion.
  • Expert knowledge of design for remote operation of tooling using remote instrumentation and control.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex and parallel technical projects.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills in the development of team members and support staff.
  • Strong communication (both verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent client focus and conflict resolution skills.
  • Three or more years of experience leading engineering teams
  • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada.
  • Sound knowledge of multiple engineering fields and of nuclear technologies.
  • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet corporate needs.
