Opportunity

PCRM Edmonton is pleased to announce an opportunity for an experienced and highly skilled Embryologist III to join our Embryology Laboratory team. This role is responsible for performing advanced embryology procedures, supporting laboratory operations, maintaining quality standards, mentoring team members, and contributing to exceptional patient care throughout the IVF treatment process.

The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced technical expertise in all aspects of clinical embryology and assist in the day-to-day leadership of the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

The Embryologist III is responsible for, but not limited to:

Clinical Embryology Procedures

  • Perform all procedures required for gamete and embryo analysis in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform sperm preparation procedures for therapeutic treatments including IUI, IVF, and ICSI.
  • Conduct hormone assays when required.
  • Perform all aspects of semen and sperm cryopreservation, storage, maintenance, and record keeping.
  • Perform oocyte and embryo cryostorage maintenance, tank receiving and shipping, and cryobank record management.
  • Perform advanced ICSI procedures, including challenging sperm sample cases.
  • Perform all aspects of PGT cases, including embryo biopsy and specimen management.

IVF Laboratory Operations

  • Coordinate and prepare for OPU procedures.
  • Perform oocyte quality assessments and culture.
  • Perform oocyte vitrification and warming procedures
  • Prepare sperm samples for insemination.
  • Process surgically retrieved sperm samples.
  • Conduct IVF inseminations and oocyte denudation.
  • Assess fertilization outcomes.
  • Perform embryo culture, grading, and assessment.
  • Perform embryo transfers, vitrification, and warming procedures.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory and clinical records.

Leadership and Quality Management

  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Embryology Laboratory.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining laboratory quality assurance and quality control standards.
  • Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory processes and equipment issues.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and monitoring of Embryologists and Andrologists.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, research projects, and outcomes monitoring.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory, supplies, solutions, and laboratory equipment.
  • Supervise laboratory operations in the absence of the Laboratory Director when required.

Patient and Team Support

  • Demonstrate compassionate and patient-centered care.
  • Explain laboratory procedures and processes to patients when required.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in educational and in-service training programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of human embryology experience in a successful IVF program.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in advanced embryology procedures, including ICSI, embryo biopsy, cryopreservation, vitrification, and embryo culture.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory quality assurance, quality control, and accreditation standards.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science (MSc) in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • Experience in laboratory leadership, mentoring, and training.
  • Experience with CCS/PGT procedures and advanced IVF laboratory techniques.
