Senior Safety Engineer (m/f/d)
About this role
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to ensure the safe deployment, operation, and sustainment of our defense systems in real-world environments. In this role, you will focus on identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks across the full lifecycle—from concept and development to field deployment and mission use.
You will work closely with systems engineering, test, human factors, and mission teams to ensure that safety is embedded not only in design, but also in procedures, training, and operational use.
What You’ll Build
- Perform operational safety analyses (e.g., OHA, SHA, OSA) to identify hazards arising during real-world use and mission scenarios
- Develop and maintain hazard logs, risk assessments, and safety cases for defense systems
- Define and validate operational safety requirements, including procedures, constraints, and mitigations
- Collaborate with system, hardware, and software teams to ensure safety considerations are integrated into system design and architecture
- Analyze human-system interaction risks, including operator workload, misuse scenarios, and environmental factors
- Support development of Concept of Operations (ConOps) and safe operating procedures
- Participate in system integration, verification, validation, and field testing to ensure operational safety objectives are met
- Interface with safety authorities, certification bodies, and internal stakeholders during safety reviews and audits
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and field issues, and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of safety processes, standards, and best practices
What You Bring
- Master’s degree in Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
- 8–10+ years of experience in safety engineering, operational safety, or system safety—preferably in defense, aerospace, or other regulated industries
- Strong experience with operational safety analysis methods (OHA, SHA, FMEA, FTA)
- Solid understanding of system safety standards (e.g., MIL-STD-882, IEC 61508, ISO 26262 where applicable)
- Experience developing safety cases and working with hazard tracking systems
- Strong understanding of system architectures and real-world operational constraints
- Experience in field testing, validation, or mission support environments
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary team
Please note: You do not need to meet every single requirement to apply. We welcome motivated candidates who are eager to grow into the role and develop their expertise further.
