Job Summary

The Cafeteria Worker at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School, Brentwood is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals for students and staff while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment. This position supports the school's mission by promoting healthy eating habits and providing quality food service in accordance with school policies and applicable health and safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines.
  • Assist with meal planning, food preparation, and portion control.
  • Serve meals in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen, serving areas, and food storage locations.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and properly.
  • Monitor food inventory and notify supervisors of needed supplies and products.
  • Receive, inspect, and store food deliveries in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with local health department regulations and food handling requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records related to food preparation, temperatures, inventory, and sanitation as required.
  • Work collaboratively with cafeteria staff, school administration, and volunteers.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Support and model Catholic values and Christian behavior in all interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Cafeteria Manager, or school administration.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in food service, institutional cooking, or commercial kitchen operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and kitchen safety procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to prepare meals according to recipes and production schedules.
  • Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Dependable, punctual, and customer-service oriented.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and exercise sound judgment.
