Job Summary

The Aftercare Aide supports the school's aftercare program by providing supervision, guidance, and care for students in a safe, nurturing, and faith-filled environment. The Aftercare Aide helps facilitate activities, assists with homework time, and ensures the well-being of students while supporting the mission and values of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during aftercare hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Monitor student behavior and promote a positive, respectful atmosphere.
  • Assist students with homework and academic activities as appropriate.
  • Organize and participate in age-appropriate recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
  • Ensure students follow school and aftercare program rules and expectations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and student sign-out records.
  • Verify authorized pick-up procedures and communicate with parents and guardians as needed.
  • Assist with snack distribution and monitor students during snack time.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming aftercare environment.
  • Report accidents, injuries, behavioral concerns, or other issues to the Aftercare Director or school administration.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding student and school information.
  • Support and model Catholic values and Christian behavior in all interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Aftercare Director, or school administration.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with children in a school, childcare, camp, or recreational setting preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and positive environment for children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to supervise and engage groups of school-aged children.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and exercise sound judgment.
  • Dependable, patient, and flexible.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to routine and emergency situations.
