The Extended Care Director at Saint Patrick Catholic School is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate before- and after-school care program for students in PreK through 8th grade. Rooted in the Catholic mission of the school, this individual ensures a welcoming and faith-filled environment for students and families while maintaining compliance with all Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) licensing regulations.
Core Functions or Duties
Program Leadership & Administration
Develop and maintain a structured, engaging, and age-appropriate extended care program that aligns with the school's mission and values.
Ensure full compliance with all applicable DCYF licensing requirements, including safety, staffing ratios, recordkeeping, and facility standards.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Washington State licensing regulations and ensure all extended care practices adhere accordingly.
Establish and maintain daily routines, emergency preparedness protocols, and behavior expectations.
Oversee the preparation and delivery of snack service, ensuring nutritional guidelines are followed.
Staff Management
Train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate extended care staff, including assistants and volunteers.
Conduct regular team meetings and provide on-the-job coaching to ensure consistency and quality of care.
Maintain required staff records, certifications (e.g., first aid/CPR, food handler permits, background checks), and professional development hours per DCYF standards.
Student & Family Engagement
Foster a warm, inclusive, and responsive environment where all students feel safe and supported.
Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians regarding program activities, student behavior, scheduling, and policy updates.
Address and resolve behavioral, emotional, and safety concerns in a timely and compassionate manner, in partnership with families and school leadership.
Operations & Compliance
Maintain daily attendance records and incident reports, and prepare required documentation for audits or inspections.
Manage program budget, supplies inventory, and resource procurement within approved financial guidelines.
Coordinate with the Principal, Vice Principal, and office staff to ensure alignment with school-wide schedules, events, and communications.
Plan and oversee full-day programming during non-school days or early-release days as needed.

QualificationsQualifications/Competencies
Must be 18 years of age or older
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or related field preferred
Experience working in a licensed childcare or school-age program setting
Meets or is willing to complete all DCYF requirements for School-Age Program Directors, including:
STARS 30-Hour Basic Training
Washington State background check
Valid CPR/First Aid certification
Bloodborne Pathogen and HIV/AIDS training
Food Handler’s Permit
Completion of DCYF MERIT registration and training updates
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff

Salary Range: $26-$28/hr
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills, and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
Full-time position with benefits (see below) during the academic year, with year-round full-time potential, dictated by increased summer programming.
Those with direct Catholic education experience will be prioritized.
