Manufacturing Programmer - Mills, 4th Axis

Summary
Primary role is to support the production in the factory to include programming, running equipment to check parts when necessary, and assisting in interpretation of the results with an eye towards guiding the machine setup staff in dialing in the machine when parts are out of specification. Where possible in addition to writing the code, designing and developing fixturing and fixturing strategies necessary for properly and repeatedly holding the parts to be inspected, setting up the first inspection run and then debugging the fixturing and programs. Code and fixturing for larger volume inspections should be designed to be used by component inspectors. Job requires training component inspectors how to setup and run such programs. Data should be designed to support automatic integration with Measurlink.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Write code that supports these objectives and provides optimal functionality for CMM.
· Edit and improve upon code in existing CMM programs and applications.
· Design new programs and applications that will enhance the efficacy of the CMM equipment.
· Ensure code is error-free, readable, efficient, and logically organized for ease of access.
· Aptly name variables and include code comments for future users.
· Provide supplemental program instructions and diagrams for code in layman’s terms.
· Develop set systems and tasks for efficient coding processes.
· Run extensive tests and trial runs to confirm proper functionality and desired results.
· Perform detailed, manual checks of code.
· Troubleshoot errors effectively and efficiently.
· Create, manage, and maintain coding databases.
· Formulate efficient database retrieval systems.
· Frequently run upgrades on systems.
· Utilize information from code libraries to ease and expedite the coding process.
· Ensure programs, external equipment, networks, etc. are all in proper communication.
· Provide model diagrams and prototypes of programming system as necessary.
· Collaborate in cross-functional projects.
· Stay abreast of industry breakthroughs and any new relevant Sylvac technology
· Develop inspection process.
· Utilize programming strategies for the most proficient and effective inspection methods.
· Utilize part drawings and CAD files to program inspection equipment.
· Review blueprints and specification to establish correct inspection criteria following best practices.
· Communicate and resolve issues with peers/other departments.
· Develop and implement continuous improvement ideas on new and legacy parts.
· Consult with supervisors, other programmers, and end users to gather information about program intent, functions, features, data requirements, input requirements, output requirements, internal and external checks and controls, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems.
· Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with programs.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in computer programming, computer science, quality engineering or related field, or relative hands-on experience.
· Have a minimum of 3 years CNC experience programming precision measuring equipment.
· Experience with GD&T.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
Depending on the assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards. May periodically travel to satellite sites.
