A Day in the Life of a Machine Operator

Adjust, calibrate, and test equipment at the beginning of every shift to ensure proper pressure, speed, temperature, and general operation
Examine visually, weigh, and measure components created from equipment to ensure machines are producing according to company and industry regulations and standards, adjusting as needed
Work with team members, maintenance personnel, and leaders to ensure any complications are dealt with quickly and correctly
Communicate with fellow team members to learn of any equipment problems or malfunctions and take care of them as they come up
Maintain and clean equipment using regulated cleaning solutions, grease guns, oil cans, air hoses, and cleaning cloths
Choose and install cutters, molds, and all other necessary equipment parts so machines are always operating at peak efficiency – This includes changing dies
Communicate clearly and accurately to the following shift to ensure a smooth handoff
Maintain a clean and safe workspace
Other duties as necessary

The Machine Operators are responsible for safely running the various machines throughout the facility. This includes daily safety checks, monitoring the heating and loading of billets into the press, monitoring the material as it is extruded for consistency, and the ability to perform hot die changes. This machine operator could require the employee to constantly lift 35lb billets and be exposed to high temperatures, this operator will also be required to wear heat-reflective Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the duration of the shift.

QualificationsEducation

High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

1-2 years of experience in a production environment is preferred
Experience operating an extrusion press or operating similar machinery is preferred
Ability to read drawings and measurement equipment is required

Computer Skills

Basic use of Microsoft Office preferred
