Consultant or Senior Consultant, Public Affairs and Policy
About this role
We are looking to hire a consultant or senior consultant with public affairs experience to join our team in Munich or Berlin. We are seeking an ambitious, talented and politically astute professional who is eager to make an impact within our dynamic team of public affairs consultants.
Our team advises leading companies, industry associations, NGOs and organisations on navigating the evolving German and European policy landscape. We help clients understand and engage with policymakers and other stakeholders, providing strategic counsel on public affairs, stakeholder engagement, policy communications and advocacy initiatives across Germany and beyond.
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years' relevant experience gained in a public affairs consultancy, corporate public affairs function, trade association, government institution, parliament, think tank or related environment. You will demonstrate strong knowledge of the German policymaking process, excellent business acumen and a genuine interest in helping organisations navigate complex political, regulatory and stakeholder environments.
This is an excellent opportunity for a high-performing, proactive and entrepreneurial colleague who will be responsible for managing client projects, coordinating stakeholder engagement programmes, delivering client-ready materials, supporting junior team members and contributing to business development activities.
We believe we can offer you a multi-market platform to grow, learn and develop your strategic and advisory skills. By joining our team, you will work closely with colleagues across APCO's international network, bringing together local insight and global perspectives to help clients address some of the most pressing public policy and business challenges of today.
Experience & Responsibilities:
- Have at least 4 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, public policy, strategic communications or a related field, including experience managing client projects and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the German political, legislative and regulatory landscape, as well as broader European policy developments.
- Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, industry stakeholders, trade associations, NGOs, think tanks and other relevant audiences.
- Support the development and implementation of integrated public affairs and advocacy strategies that help clients achieve their policy and business objectives.
- Lead the preparation of high-quality client deliverables, including policy analyses, briefing materials, stakeholder mapping, position papers, reports and executive presentations.
- Demonstrate strong project management capabilities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and to the highest standard.
- Support the planning and execution of policy-focused events, roundtables, conferences and stakeholder engagement programmes, bringing both a German and international perspective to discussions and initiatives.
- Support business development initiatives, including identifying opportunities, contributing to proposals and participating in new business pitches.
- Take ownership of personal and team development by mentoring junior colleagues and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
- Professional fluency in German and English, both written and spoken.
We are recognised as one of the best agencies to work for in our industry, providing:
- The opportunity to work on a diverse range of clients and projects with some of the industry's best and brightest minds.
- A collegial and collaborative working environment where you will work alongside colleagues from across Europe and APCO's global network.
- Significant opportunities for professional growth through training, mentoring and personal development programmes.
- A competitive compensation and benefits package, including wellbeing and healthcare support.
- An enhanced parental leave policy for all employees from day one.
